2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I'm glad I found it By mkb At first I couldn't quite figure it out. As I read further it became scarier and harder to put down.By the end, I didn't want it to end!Certainly a difference from her later novels...I'm glad I found it.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. and the concept of running the book during the Reign of Terror is a good one. But for me By Amazon Customer It's an interesting first effort. Her writing style is reasonably suspenseful, and the concept of running the book during the Reign of Terror is a good one. But for me, the plot (star-crossed lovers from opposite sides of the political spectrum unite as dramatically as possible) never really clicked because I was never able to believe the attraction between them. Read it if you're interested in Wentworth as an author, or for something a little different - there's not a whole lot of popular fiction set during the French Revolution these days (this book was originally published in 1910).
