It's packaged with intention, written with creativity, and presented with passion. I've listened to it 2 times, read it once, and attended the live event in Dallas, TX. Sure some of the content is basic for seasoned entrepreneurs, but how often we forget the basics and repeat "basic" mistakes. This is now a book I suggest to many of my clients just starting out so they know what's coming around the next turn. It's one of my top 3 reads in the last 24 months.I found myself laughing out loud regarding the story about Space Mountain, cheering when Darren overcame the resistance with the water filters, and resonating when reading about the crabs. This book will fire you up with inspiration and then send you out with practical application to go make your entrepreneurial mandate a reality! Thanks Darren, Meredith, and the SUCCESS team.

This time, it is 66% of small businesses and the reason for their demise is mostly due to their own inaction.Entrepreneur Darren Hardy has written a mixture of business autobiography and self-help inspirational guide, looking at the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. Running your own business does test your emotions to the max. Many compare it to parenting. There will be a lot of highs and pride-filled moments but also some very frustrating, soul crushing lows. We are all different.For this reviewer, the information provided was interesting and helpful - it is just the style and the way the book is put together was grating. It needs a sequential read and a bit of patience to get the most out of it, pulling some of the key points into the limelight with a pair of pliers. It is worth the rolled coaster relationship you might form with it though!The author brings some very incisive, often-overlooked points to the party that can be equally applicable to regular corporations. How many leaders and managers forget they are still sales people at heart, as the author notes: “Even if you have a sales force selling your product for you, you’re still going to be selling “big ideas” to partners and “the vision” to your employees. You’re going to be selling to new recruits persuading them to join you, banks to back you, vendors to trust you, and the manufacturers that make your product to speed up production and keep up the great work. You’re going to be convincing people to do their best. You’ll be asking people to lower their prices. You’re going to push, pull, persuade, negotiate, wheel, and deal. You’re going to sell. All day. Every day. That’s business.”Entrepreneurs are chided for hiding away from sales opportunities, noting that many tend to wrongly spend their time focussing on to-do lists, email checking, social media monitoring, endless meetings or paperwork. These can be necessary evils, but selling needs to be king.Maybe you don’t like the word “SELL” for whatever reason. Why not use the author’s suggestion of replacing this with “HELP” - so look how you can help others, look how your product or service can address someone’s deepest need or fear, consider what problem does it solve and articulate how it can make a positive difference?“Stop selling. Help instead,” as the author forcefully points out, adding “… if what you have doesn’t help? Then you’ve either got the wrong prospect or the wrong product.”So style and packaging notwithstanding – and this can be a highly personal thing – the book does deliver a lot of interesting, thought provoking ideas and concepts that may help you sustain and possibly transform your entrepreneurial activities. It appears to be one of the more credible books of its kind.

The fifth Oz book... by no means the best By Blake Petit "The Road to Oz" is the fifth book in what is perhaps the greatest fantasy series of all time.. however, it's not really a book I'd recommend to show people how wonderful the series really is. At this point it seems that Baum was getting a little weary, and it shows, as this book has almost no discernable plot or conflict at all. Dorothy, again, gets lost in a fairyland, and again makes her way to the Emerald City, assembling a small band of strange and endearing characters along the way -- the same as she'd done three times before. What made this a weak entry is that there was no sense of urgency here. Dorothy was never worried, she knew as soon as she found Ozma she'd have a way home, there was no villain... by the time she made it to the Emerald City the book had been liberally dotted with references to how everyone in Oz loved one another and nobody was ever mean -- unless, of course, you're a wicked witch, but they had both long been vanquished at this point.The land of Oz is built on strange situations and characters, but also on story. In the original "Wizard of Oz," Dorothy and her friends faced the witch, hoping to send her home. In "The Land of Oz," Pip had to deal with an entire invasion of the Emerald City. In "Ozma of Oz" there was the wonderful story of the rescue of the Royal Family of Ev.By book four, "Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz," Baum seemed to have run out of plots and contented himself, in these few volumes, with just bringing in new characters and not bothering to craft a story around them. In book six, "The Emerald City of Oz," he took the step of placing Dorothy in Oz permanently, which was probably the best thing he'd ever done, because later volumes no longer needed to concern themselves with finding ways to get to Oz and just told really wonderful fantasy stories. ("Tik-Tok of Oz" is still my favorite in the series.")The Oz books, in toto (no pun intended), are wonderful for people of any age, but this installment is really for completists only.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. a grand evocation of a child's birthday party By marcabru As noted by some other reviewers Road to Oz doesn't conform to the usual requirements of a fairy tale such as a quest or continual action adventure. However, I believe Baum was aiming at something different here, namely, evoking the wonder, anticipation and shared excitement that young children feel at a birthday party (the point of the book is the celebration of Ozma's birthday). The first edition of the book was even printed with paper of different colors like the colored paper used for decorations. In these terms, Road to Oz is perhaps one of the best written of the Oz series with very few false notes or awkward characters. The characters of Button Bright, Polychrome, the Shaggy Man and Johnny DoIt are particularly good. Actually there is a quite a bit of action and adventure before Dorothy and her companions arrive in Oz. The transformations of Button-Bright and the Shaggy Man into fox and donkey respectively, while straight out of Classical myth, have an unusual twist: their motivation stems not from malice or the Gods' sport, but rather from the transformer's inability of seeing more than one standard of beauty. Once in Oz, Baum handles the pageantry and socializing in deft fashion for a children's story. In short, an essential part of the Oz series.

Weakest of the series, but still enjoyable By David Michael Cohen Everyone has their favorite Oz novel, but of the 14 which Baum wrote, this one is, in my opinion, the weakest. Unlike other Oz books there is little in the way of plot. This makes reading it uncomfortable as the reader spends most of the book waiting for somehting to happen, only to realize at the end that nothing happened. Also, I loved the tense yet humorus situations Baum masterfully set up in the other books. I rorared with laughter in the second book when Jelia Jamb "translated" for the scarecrow and Jack Pumpkinhead. The trial from book four and Dorothy's capture by the people of Utensia in book six also made me laugh while also clutching the book with fascination. There are no comperable scenes in "Road to Oz" and this is sorely missed.However, the book is still worth reading. For one thing it introduces the Shaggy Man, who proves to be a most enjoyable character. The Shaggy Man carries a device called the love magnet, which causes people who see it to love him. This subplot introduces a very mature and though-provoking conflict. Is it right to enchant people into loving? Is this a power that one person, even a well-intentioned one, can hold alone? What are the drawbacks of being loved by everyone? This subplot held my interest and made the story readable.Finally, there are cameo appearances in the end from many of Baum's non-Oz books. Clearly these appearances are a plug for his other works. One cannot fault him too much for doing this though. Baum wrote many fine books which had nothing to do with Oz, and this needs to be remembered.Despite this book's weakness, it did not signal the decline of the series. Most of the later books were quite good, and I found "The Tin Woodsman of Oz" (number 12) to be one of the best. Keep reading, as altogether there is nothing like the Oz series.

A colourless and insignificant young person, carefully brought up by Mama, so that 'at seventeen Rosalie had never read anything but the Lettres Edifiantes and some works on heraldry', she nonetheless has an unbending mind of her own, most particularly in her resolve never to marry the man her mother intends her for.When the intriguing Albert Savarus - a successful, but mysterious, lawyer and later newspaper editor - arrives in town, Rosalie hears of him at dinner parties and becomes obsessed with him. But her seemingly unimportant manoeuvres ('all the time she was pondering these machinations, the extraordinary girl was working slippers for her father with the most innocent air in the world') have a massive outcome...This was a wonderful read, both for the little moments of humour and the plot development.

This is a great book for professionals with clients as company owners By Scott Miller, CPA Having read the book, I specifically note it is loaded with real world examples and practical insights into getting the exit planning process right. Peter Christman brings to the table a career of getting deals completed and knowing first hand how transactions can go awry. This book is his contribution to making the exit process understandable in the often exceedingly complex world of transactions. There are so many traps for the unwary, and so many ways for deals to "come of the rails;" that Mr. Christman's clear view is refreshing. This is a great book for professionals with clients as company owners; so that they may become a trusted advisor on the full range of issues. The book is also a good resource for business owners that are not aware of the difficulties (behavioral and technical) inherent in the succession planning process. I recommend this book unhesitatingly.

Sales Propaganda By Gary Patterson Disappointed that this is merely teaser material with no actionable steps other than to contact a consulting firm associated with the author. Absent the forward, introductions, letter from the author, etc, there are only about 60 pages of content, and it is basically a sales pamphlet for a consulting group. Definitely not recommended for anyone attempting to educate themselves rather than hire a consultant.

The ultimate dream of any entrepreneur or business owner, to build a business and then maximise the value before the business is sold. Not many of us consider what is happening from a personal perspective before we undergoe such a transition and the life after exit.The 3 legged stool is a great analogy of the 3 pronged process that the master plan should take. If we don't consider all 3 areas then the success of the plan is flawed. As an entrepreneur that has successfully built and sold my business i could relate to the concept and examples that Peter Christman discusses. I wish I had of been able to have taken advantage of the wisdom in this book before my journey in this area. It probably would have made me more money and would have made me more content because I would have ironed out my personal and post exit objectives when I had a chance to do something about it.

About the Author Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born in London, England, in 1874. He went on to study art at the Slade School, and literature at University College in London. Chesterton wrote a great deal of poetry, as well as works of social and literary criticism. Among his most notable books are "The Man Who Was Thursday", a metaphysical thriller, and "The Everlasting Man", a history of humankind's spiritual progress. After Chesterton converted to Catholicism in 1922, he wrote mainly on religious topics such as "Orthodoxy" and "Heretics". Chesterton is most known for creating the famous priest-detective character Father Brown, who first appeared in "The Innocence of Father Brown". Chesterton died in 1936 at the age of 62.

Chesterton is on his game and has a lot of worthwhile things to say about England and America. However, the Kindle version was very difficult to read because the prose on the page looked like poetry (with long line followed by short line followed by long line).

Young Hector's Uncle tells him that he is really a low-born beggar boy with no legal claim to his dead father's estate. Come to find out, his uncle lied, and Hector eventually succeeds to the property while his bad uncle is brought low instead. The moral of these tales is always that if you are good and honest and try hard you will triumph over adversity. Would that it were always so. 1885. Alger is the original rags-to-riches guy, often credited with inventing the strive-and-succeed spirit that inspired boys to work hard and advance themselves in order to achieve the American Dream. This theme resonates throughout his numerous writings. From Chapter One: That is more reasonable, said Mr. Roscoe, to himself, as he laid down the letter. Three hundred dollars I consider a fair price. At any rate, I do not propose to pay any more for Hector. I suppose the table is plain enough, but I don't believe in pampering the appetites of boys. If he were the master of Roscoe Hall, as he thinks he is, there might be some propriety in it; but upon that head I shall soon undeceive him. I will let him understand that I am the proprietor of the estate, and that he is only a dependent on my bounty. I wonder how he will take it. I dare say he will make a fuss, but he shall soon be made to understand that it is of no use. Now to answer these letters.

Hector's uncle shows some evidence that Hector was adopted and thus not entitled to inherit the estate.The uncle sends Hector off to a school. The owner of the school is a real jerk. The owner's nephew, Jim, is a bully. Hector puts the bully in his place; there are a couple fights. Jim frames Hector for stealing. Hector's friends are able to show that the bully was the thief. Once his name is cleared, Hector leaves the school.Hector travels to New York City and stays with a friend. He rescues a young girl from a speeding carriage (I wonder how many times this happens in an Alger book.) Hector is sent to California on a mission for a friend of his, and along the way he is able to get proof that he was his father's son, and the Uncle has to give up the estate.This is a fairly pleasant, average Horatio Alger story. If you've enjoyed other Alger stories, you'll enjoy this one. If the Alger stories are new to you, this is a good one to start with.
