Tales of Folk and Fairies, by Katharine Pyle

About the Author Katharine Pyle (November 23, 1863 – February 19, 1938) was an American artist, poet, and children's author. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, the youngest offspring of William Pyle and Margaret (Painter), she was the sister of author and artist Howard Pyle. She was educated at the Women's Industrial School and the Drexel Institute, then studied at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women and the New York Art Students' League. She lived in Wilmington her whole life, except for a four-year period in New York in the 1890s. Her art was exhibited at the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. She found work as an illustrator no later than 1895, but her first major success occurred in 1898 with The Counterpane Fairy. Over the course of her career she wrote over 30 books and illustrated the works of others. Her works appeared in the Ladies' Home Journal and Harper's Bazaar. (Wikipedia)

Tales of Folk and Fairies is a collection of short stories all written by Katharine Pyle. It was published by Little, Brown, and Company in 1929.The table of contents mentions illustrations, but sadly they do not come through in the download. Amazon, I encourage you to fix this.Stories in order- The Meester Stoorworm: A Story from Scotland- Jean Malin and the Bull-man: A Louisiana Tale- The Widow's Son: A Scandinavian Tale- The Wise Girl: A Serbian Story- The History of All Cogia From the Arabian Nights- Oh!: A Cossack Story- The Talking Eggs: A Story from Louisiana- The Frog Princess: A Russian Story- The Magic Turban, The Magic Sword, and the Magic Carpet: A Persian Story- The Three Silver Citrons: A Persian Story- The Magic Pipe: A Norse Tale- The Triumph of Truth: A Hindu Story- Life's Secret: A Story of Bengal- Dame Pridgett and the FairiesI read the first few and feel they would make nice bedtime stories for children. Remember though, children's stories used to contain beatings and such. These do as well. It's a nice contrast to the way authors write today, but parents may want to pre-read before snuggling up and reading out loud.

But why do I keep getting books that give a list of illustrations and then forgetting the illustration itself? I did not really miss the pictures but the last thing it mentioned was that the page numbers for the illustrations had been changed to match those in the ebook. Don't you think it might have been better to put in the pictures instead?

It's stories you never hear about but might if you were born in Europe maybe. It has that old world kind of flavor. Strange is another word that comes up to mind also. If you like the old world style of story telling then this book might be for your reading enjoyment.
