By Bill Anderson Length: 23 pages.If I had purchased this for 99 cents, I might have been displeased enough to write a harsh review. But, had I paid $2.99, to be honest, I would have felt cheated. But...If I had gotten it as a free download purchase through Amazon's KDP promotion, I would have no serious qualm. However, I borrowed it through Amazon's Kindle Unlimited marketing, and I am grateful for getting to try before I buy.I will call this a mini-booklet, for it is awfully small. Too small, even, to be considered a booklet.My disappointment in this offering is not related to the writer's ability to communicate effectively. Her writing style and editing is good. Perhaps even excellent. So, what's my beef?The information published is, at best, of minimal help. Dreamers might find it inspiring. Certainly, it has a few tidbits of wisdom. A dollar for 23 pages? Yeah, no problemo, but there needs to be some specifity or, at least a case study of a failure, and why, plus a successful food truck.So, bottom line? Three stars, but, if there was a 2-1/2 star option, that would be closer to expressing my appraisal.Whew, sure am glad I have KU.

By Anna Villalobos Fiona Hathaway's book on food trucks is incredibly helpful and detailed in that she walks you through each step from first getting a license to figuring out the theme of the truck. She even helps to plan out the menu and gives you ideas on loactions to park the truck! She is extremely detailed and basically walks you through each step! The only thing I wish she would have expanded on was on where to go to get the license and how to get a business plan together, but if you dont already have a business plan before you get the license I would suggest taking it back a couple of notches!

This Book is about More than Just the Food Truck Business By Michele Tigges I've been looking for the perfect business to begin and I've been looking for at least the last 3 years. Fiona does a great job laying the groundwork for anyone wanting to begin their own food truck business. Come to find out, there is lots of opportunity for someone who will apply themselves and put the energy into it. And even if my husband and I never decide to go this route, Fiona's book gives a lot of very valuable business pointers that go beyond the food truck model. Definitely worth the money!

I read it several times in middle school, high school, college, and grad school. Even now, I read a few stanzas before I go to bed, and have the most beautiful dreams. Kids love it, too (especially if you show them illustrations of Orlando's adventures). Highly recommended!!

Wonderful parody of Roland and a great send up of all that heroic French drivel about great kings and pure romance. The scan to convert it to kindle is a little weak because it leaves all the footnotes in the text, but it is easy to skip over that.

My children inherited my voracious reading acumen as have my granddaughters and grandsons. I had purchased a hardback copy of this book for my daughter when she was young and purchased this one for my granddaughter this Christmas. It is a beautiful tome!! When my eight-year-old granddaughter opened it, squealed, and was done hugging it, her mother got a good look and said, "Hey mom, I think this one is better than the one I got."My grandmother is the one that bought me my copy of this book in the early 1960s and this one is quite similar. This is a great book for a young reader.

About the Author John Bunyan (1628 1688) was born in Elstow, England,

and his life was spared twice in his early years, something he

believed God had done for a special purpose. In November

1660, when Bunyan arrived to preach in the little town of

Lower Samsell, he was informed that a warrant had been

issued for his arrest. Unwilling to denounce his Christian faith

and his calling to the ministry, he was imprisoned for twelve

years. Among the many writings he published during his

It was a concisely written book of encouragement to live the Christian life as the Bible spells it out. He shows the importance of being in the Way and realizing that we have influence over the lives of others seeking heaven. It's amazing to see how the Lord changed him from the man he was to the man he became. It reminds me of the abounding grace of God to George Mueller who was also greatly used of God. I will periodically reread Bunyan's book. The Life of Trust; Being a Narrative of the Lord's Dealings With George Müller

Pan Michael (previously released as "Fire in the Steppe" etc By Scott Zachary A wonderful read, "Pan Michael" rounds out the Trilogy that has bridged stylistic centuries and proven there is an ageless recipe for plot, drama, character and objective. NO reader, regardless of ethnic background can fail to feel for the incredibly detailed main characters in this novel, such as Pan Michael or the daring woman, Basha. Action is not stinted and combines with the other elements in this colorful and sweeping epic to demonstrate history in one of the least well-documented areas of 17th century Europe. In Poland and Lithuania, where the edges of three great religions, and dozens of ethnic groups ebbed and flowed over the multicolored plains in endless kaleidescopes of struggle, Sinkiewicz paints a vast landscape of dramatic and epic action. He does this without losing the artist's eye for color or the political opportunist's artful demonstration of back-room dealings and rationales used by the shakers and movers of the novel's time-period (for it IS an historical novel). Not only is this clearly done with analogies for the time in which the novel was written (pointed examples clearly exist to parallel conditions in 19th century occupied Poland), but it resonantes with us in our hearts across the intervening century-plus, and in this, or any great republic. There is no doubt the reader will be more curious about the history of the period, and will want to read the other two novels in The Trilogy (With Fire and Sword, and The Deluge), but this is a stand-alone novel as well. The other books do not need to be read, but if I could impose upon the reader only one bit of advice: all of these books are precious, and they are in chronological order. All three will cause sleepless nights where you will be unable to put down the books, so it might be best to schedule them for a vacation! Written by the novelist who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1905 for Quo Vadis, these earlier books (The Trilogy, of which Pan Michael is the third book) for which he received grief from the critics but kudos from the reading public, were probably greater works, and are certainly recommended by this writer for all who would have the common reader love their creations.

A stunning conclusion to a monumental trilogy By Karl Janssen Pan Michael is the third volume in what is simply known as "The Trilogy," a series of three historical war epics by Polish Nobel Prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz. Published in 1888, this book completes the saga that began in With Fire and Sword and continued in The Deluge. Originally titled Pan Wolodyjowski, it has also been published in English under the title Fire in the Steppe. The title character, Michael Volodyovski, was a supporting character in the first two books; here he finally gets a starring role. (This review is based on the English translation by Jeremiah Curtin, so I am using his spellings of proper names.) The story takes place from 1668 to 1673, during a war between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Ottoman Empire.This final volume of Sienkiewicz's spectacular trilogy differs from the first two installments in that, for most of the book, warfare takes a back seat to romance. Like the two previous books, Pan Michael is an epic adventure of love threatened by war, so the first order of business is to find a love interest for Michael. At the end of The Deluge, he was engaged to Anusia Borzobogati, but, perhaps because Sienkiewicz didn't feel she was a sympathetic enough character, she dies of a mysterious illness in chapter one. Stricken by grief, love is the last thing on Michael's mind, but the indomitable Pan Zagloba makes it his personal mission to find a new bride for his old friend. The first twenty chapters of Pan Michael constitute a sort of self-contained romance novel worthy of Balzac or Anthony Trollope. Michael, the "little knight" renowned as the finest swordsman in all the Commonwealth, doesn't see any combat until about halfway through the book, but once he unsheathes his sword sparks fly and blood flows. The final quarter of the book is devoted to the epic warfare this trilogy is famous for, and the battles are as intense, brutal, and powerful as anything Sienkiewicz has written.The books in The Trilogy take place in roughly the same time period as Alexandre Dumas's Three Musketeers novels, and they share much of the same atmosphere of swashbuckling adventure and brotherly camaraderie. Sienkiewicz's books, however, are much more realistic in their portrayal of military life, more accurate in their depiction of historical events, and more solemnly respectful of life and death. There is a gravitas to the Polish trilogy that is missing from the Musketeers books. While his books are still fun to read, Sienkiewicz deals much more seriously with universal themes like love, honor, duty, and vengeance. At times Pan Michael is reminiscent of Homer's Iliad. Religion is a constant presence in this novel, not in a preachy way, but as an accurate representation of the importance of Catholicism in Polish culture, particularly during this time period. Though the motivations of the Turks are handled with far more brevity, Sienkiewicz shows equal respect to the religious piety of his Muslim characters. While both sides refer to each other as "dogs," "infidels," or "non-believers," Sienkiewicz demonstrates how both forces are motivated by their conception of God, and those soldiers of either side who remain faithful to their ideals are worthy of honor and reverence.The best volume in Sienkiewicz's trilogy is The Deluge, but Pan Michael takes a close second. These books constitute a truly monumental achievement. Together they offer months of exciting reading and about a semester's worth of education in Eastern European history. For anyone who loves historical literature and epic adventure, Sienkiewicz's trilogy is an essential read.

A Wonderful Read By Lily Raines Pan Michael, like any Sienkiewicz work, is a wonderful read due to its prose, his wonderful characterization and due to his ability to bring color to his works.Reading Pan Michael, like reading Teutonic Knights or Fire and Sword, is like opening a doorway into another time......this particular time....medieval Poland. Stepping through this doorway, you encounter all of the sights, the sounds and the lives of the characters within.I highly recommend Pan Michael, and any other book you may find by Sienkiewicz.

Anglo-Saxon Britain By Andrew Barlow This book is essential reading for any person who is interested in the nature of nations and groups or tribes of people who lived in Britain during the first century A.D. until the departure of the Romans from Britain. It is essential reading to understand The Chronicles. It has made several matters re the character of the British people clear. Without this knowledge it is not possible to understand how the British people came to rule most of the world for a long time.

By that time, the author was only a few years into his writing career, which would eventually span the rest of his life (1848-1899) and yield an output of about 30 novels and numerous works of non-fiction.Grant Allen (full name Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen) was born in Canada to Irish parents, spent part of his life in the U.S., on Jamaica (teaching there at a college for black women) and most of it in England, where he received his education at King Edward's school in Birmingham and graduated from Merton College in Oxford.His father was a protestant minister, but young Grant had different ideas: he became an agnostic and socialist. Being very much interested in psychology and evolution (and writing about both subjects), he even introduced some rather revolutionary concepts in his novels. One of his books, "The Woman Who Did", caused a scandal when it was published in 1895: it portrayed an independent unmarried woman who has a child. He even wrote some novels under a female pseudonym, and a few science fiction books.In "Anglo-Saxon Britain", however, he was still pretty much a writer of science and history, and the book is compiled in a thorough and accurate manner, with many footnotes and always naming his sources, both contemporary and historical.In the preface, he writes: This little book is an attempt to give a brief sketch of Britain under the early English conquerors, rather from the social than from the political point of view. For that purpose not much has been said about the doings of kings and statesmen; but attention has been mainly directed towards the less obvious evidence afforded us by existing monuments as to the life and mode of thought of the people themselves. The principal object throughout has been to estimate the importance of those elements in modern British life which are chiefly due to purely English or Low-Dutch influences.He goes on to explain how the Anglo-Saxon names are pronounced, a subject which is picked up again later in the book in an extra chapter about the development of the language (very interesting!).Then he proceeds to outline the origin of the Anglo-Saxons, how the tribes lived on the Baltic coast, and their progress across the North Sea to the south-eastern part of Britannia, and spreading throughout what today is England.A lot of what the author sees in his fellow Englishmen he traces back to characteristics - physical ones as well as socio-cultural ones - already firmly established with the first settlers originally from Sleswick and Friesland.He contradicts some of the apparently popular theories of the time about the almost complete wiping out of the Celtic population, and does so with arguments brought forward in a logical manner.The Anglo-Saxons are portrayed as a savage people, made up of warriors whose whole (often rather short) lives centred around warfare, constantly engaged in one fight or other, often against their nearest neighbours and only rarely fighting with them against a common enemy.What I found remarkable (because I had never thought about it that way before) was how Allen describes the essential role the first monasteries had in the development of anything worth being called civilization: they really were the only places a less blood-thirsty man could turn to if he wanted to learn about things and live in (relative) peace; they were practically islands of peace and learning, of culture and science, of reading and perfecting methods of agriculture, husbandry and much more, amidst a tumultous sea of permanent warfare. Monasteries and churches were accepted as being neutral in conflicts by most parties, and left in peace, which allowed them to grow and prosper in a manner impossible to any other community, continuously under threat of being burnt and plundered.The history of the many small Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, later forming three main kingdoms until, at last, there was but one king of England, is well mapped out. Speaking of maps - a map would have been very useful to trace the movements of the various tribes, but my free kindle edition only contains the text of the book.It was a good and interesting read, and would have been even better with some illustrations. If I'll come across another free ebook by this author, I think I'll download it.

Succinct, accurate, stimulating, informative By Philip Spires Anglo-Saxon Britain by Grant Allen is a book that now comes free via Amazon Kindle, so there is absolutely no excuse for not reading it, especially when such editions can be downloaded to and read from an ordinary personal computer, at zero cost and complete convenience. This is not an advertisement, except, of course, for the book.Anglo-Saxon Britain ought to compulsory reading for all narrow-minded nationalists, Little Englanders, British national types, English leaguers and any other set of racial purity head-bangers, plus absolutely anyone who might even suggest that isolationism is either beneficial for or a natural state of the English. Anglo-Saxon Britain is not a new book, and hence does not cover any aspects of ethnology that have been developed since the arrival of DNA analysis. Anglo-Saxon Britain is thus an old-fashioned review and analysis of available historical documents and sources. But, in a succinct and wonderfully readable form, it succeeds in summarising the issue's complexity and communicating a beautifully rounded picture of a thoroughly complicated reality.The English - and their Saxon and Jutish cousins - were, of course, invaders, originating in what we now call Germany, Denmark and Holland. What they brought to a Romanised, at least in part already Christian and largely unified land was barbarism, paganism and continual warfare. What they also brought with them - or at least the Angels did - was their language, a form of low German with gendered nouns that had case endings and verbs that declined into multiple forms But the general structure of that language endured, endured as its complexities of form gradually disappeared whilst its complexity of potential nuance grew. Its vocabulary welcomed successive waves of foreign invaders and its aesthetic adopted the more civilised ways of other foreigners from southern Europe.The Danes also deserve a mention, of course, since they ruled most of what we now call England for much of the Anglo-Saxon period. And the Welsh and Celts, indigenous people, but only in a relative sense, were not only subjugated but contributed in their own way to the wholly complicated and, frankly mixed up, gene pool through inter-marriage. The point is made repeatedly that perhaps the most English - as far as the original form and sound of the language is concerned - is still spoken by the Lothians of modern-day Scotland, since the Angel settlers there were the least affected by subsequent waves of invasion.What we do know about the English - very little, it has to be said, since they wrote down almost nothing about themselves - is that they rarely cooperated, except at the tribal or clan level, constantly bickered and argued, regularly fought one another and spent very little time on more civilised pursuits. At least some things have endured.Anglo-Saxon Britain by Grant Allen does not trade any myths. It presents a learned, well researched and referenced account of the politics, the conflicts, the culture and language of the early English. It reminds us that the last English person to occupy the English throne was Harold in 1066 and he succumbed to an immigrant from continental Europe who moved in and made the place his own, perhaps improving it along the way. The book is superbly entertaining as well as informative, erudite and learned, but also lean, stimulating and succinct. Its sections on the language, alone, render it essential reading for anyone who is the least bit interested in English or the English.

Her writing style is reasonably suspenseful, and the concept of running the book during the Reign of Terror is a good one. But for me, the plot (star-crossed lovers from opposite sides of the political spectrum unite as dramatically as possible) never really clicked because I was never able to believe the attraction between them. Read it if you're interested in Wentworth as an author, or for something a little different - there's not a whole lot of popular fiction set during the French Revolution these days (this book was originally published in 1910).
