By sherri jones-teachout For those of you who believe in the end of the world theory, I guess this book might be for you. I however, don't. The author mentions so many different products that you need to stockpile for survival, and many more to use in bartering for products from others. There are so many, no one would have the space to stockpile them, and then keep track of their expiration dates to replace them. He mentions stockpiling things like liquor, alcohol, cigarettes, and wood. Come on, wood. Where would any one store it, and once it rotted so bad, what would you do with it? I'm sure everyone living in New York City has lots of room in their tiny apartments to store all of these items. NOT!!!! This book just draws on the fears of the few who believe in doomsday, and the end if the world. Personally, if the world is coming to a point where I have to stockpile rat poison, cans of bug spray, and the many other things mentioned in this book, I think I would rather be one of the first casualties, rather than live such an existence. Does any one remember Y2K, when the new century rolled in, and the crazies that filled their bathtubs with water and stockpiled food, in case computers somehow caused their water to stop flowing into their homes, and stores to run out of food. You can't let your fears overcome your common sense. I believe in the goodness of the human spirit, and during past disasters, the majority of the population helps each other, and works together to assist those in need. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

Wheeler Holy shades of the cold war: atomic war scares, students hiding under their desks when survival drills were executed, bomb shelters in the back yard, and stockpiling of materials for a disaster that didn’t happen. The ideas presented in this book remind me of the arguments at that time that led government agencies to build and stock fallout shelters to make the populace THINK they were going to be able to survive catastrophic disaster. An idea all the experts knew to be false and misleading. Everyone was encouraged to stockpile all sort of items, most of which have been mentioned in this book. The result a lot of high cost survival goods being destined for landfill. Stockpiling in hopes of a catastrophe that will destroy our current level of civilization is impractical since foods, medicines, cigarettes, and even fire wood degrade to uselessness over a period of time. Leaving the person owning the stockpile with a warehouse full of trash acquired and stored at great cost. Money that could have been usefully spent preparing to survive a disaster not profit from it it it ever occurs. A situation, given human adaptability, I highly doubt unless mother nature (by any name) decides to throw a few Kilometer size rocks at us. I received a PDF version of this book at no charge in exchange for my honest review. My honest review is I paid what it is worth.

Not helpful - bad advice given By Amazon Customer This book wants to be helpful but in reality it's just a compilation of some seemingly useful articles. It tries to tell you that in case of an "end of world" situation bartering will be the only way to get the goods you need - but you have to learn it for yourself how to do it; so go to yard sales to learn it. I think that was the best suggestion of the book.Stockpiling a lot of thing needs a lot of space - what most people don't have. You shouldn't stockpile drugs, antibiotics as they expire and you don't know if they will help you or harm you. Throwing away drugs you bought and cannot touch (as that stock is for the end of world and you cannot use it for yourself) is an expensive business. And you shouldn't try to use antibiotics developed for animals.No real helpful advice is given in this book - for me it was 33 pages of scaremongering.I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed the fact that she included a list of Daycare licensing requirements by State. Recommendation: A must read book!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Title is Misleading By dml Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this book. The title doesn't correspond with the information in the book. The title suggests that the book would be focused on starting an in-home daycare business, but the information provided is primarily geared towards daycare centers and having staff. Also, almost 20 pages of the book (pages 22- 41) is wasted on listing the state licensing contact information for all 50 states, which anyone could easily located on their own via the internet or phone book. Luckily, I didn't lose a lot of money on this purchase.

A very exciting and entertaining read By The Reviewer Formerly Known as Kurt Johnson This book picks up immediately after From the Earth to the Moon ended. Our three intrepid astronauts are now on their way to the Moon, and begin making amazing discoveries immediately. It seems that the Earth’s gravity has captured a new small satellite, an erstwhile meteor. However, the gravity of this small companion has caused a deviation of the trajectory of their ship, and it appears that they are not going to land on the Moon after all, but merely orbit it. But all is not lost, there are still more discoveries to make, and who knows what they might think of along the way!Jules Verne’s From the Earth to the Moon was first published in 1865(!), and this book was published in 1870, in answer to the public’s demand to know what became of the astronauts. This book is as much fun as the first book in the series. True, the science behind this book is even less accurate than the first, but it is, nonetheless a very exciting and entertaining read. If you want to read a really entertaining work of paleo-science-fiction, then get this book, you will not be disappointed!

Basically, we have a cartographic exploration of the lunar body, and exploration. Those aboard must also struggle to find a way back to Earth safely, so that they may continue to go on living, and not be the first human corpsicles on record.

One of Verne's great space novels By A Customer The sequel to From the Earth to the Moon I found incredible, for the charaters make a very accurate map of the moon. However, they eventually get caught in a predicament of returning to Earth, but they make it back.

I did find that a few characters were hard to like and I wasn't really satisfied by the ending of the story, much like real life, things don't always go your way.

Over the past several years it has become an increasingly popular way to fund projects. However, as “Step-by-step Crowdfunding,” by Joseph Hogue, points out, a majority of crowd funding attempts do not reach their goal, and some wind up raising nothing. How to run a successful crowd funding campaign is the message of the book.The subtitle of the book, "Everything You Need to Raise Money From the Crowd," is an apt description of its contents, since Hogue covers clearly and in detail every aspect of crowdfunding. The book is divided into three parts, the first two of roughly equal length, the third much shorter. The first part is “Pre-Launch Crowdfunding.” It covers such topics as shaping a successful crowdfunding idea, choosing a crowdfunding platform, campaign research, setting realistic goals, creating and driving visitors to your campaign blog, and marketing.Part Two of the book is “Running a Successful Crowdfunding Campaign.” Here Hogue focuses on the campaign itself, emphasizing issues such as how to build community around your campaign, getting the best bang for your crowdfunding marketing, and keeping your community motivated.The last section, “Post-Campaign Fulfillment and Community,” discusses how to fulfill your promises and keep the momentum going.Anyone who is considering a campaign should first read this book. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Well written book 5 stars. By Heisenberg I have read dozens of books on crowd funding and projects for crowdfunding. And in terms of quality content Mr. Hogue has nailed it. Most books I have read are the boiler plate standard of copy and pasted wording from the old chilton/sheets manuals of the 1960 for Grant writers and government budgets. Well Im trying to crowd fund a project, not fund NASA or the Mayo Clinic for research money. I just needed a step by step approach that would be effective. So I am taking the suggestions and taking notes. It seems to be very straight forward.

In this extremely readable book, author Joseph Hogue takes us step-by-step through the crowdfunding process, covering everything from planning, to the advantages and drawbacks of different crowdfunding platforms, and beyond. In explaining the process, the author provides useful data to support his points, and presents useful insights as to what one should consider in setting up and executing a successful crowdfunding campaign. Although I did not previously think of crowdfunding as a viable option for financing businesses, this book has definitely broadened my perspectives.

Bernice Brewster is an aquatic consultant with a major interest in the koi hobby. Nick Fletcher is the former editor of the UK aquatic monthly Practical Fishkeeping and a regular contributor to fish-related publications. Steve Hickling is a leading authority on koi and pond construction. Keith Holmes is manager of Koi Water Barn in Kent, England, with a deep knowledge of koi health. Mick Martin, a koi-keeper for more than 20 years, has practical experience of koi husbandry through breeding and buying in Japan. Tony Pitham is the owner of Koi Water Barn and one of the most respected koi dealers working in Japan.

I'd give a full five stars, but this exact same book was also published under the name "Koi: Living Jewels of the Orient." Unfortunately, I purchased both so I have two copies of the same thing.As far as I can tell (as a newbie to koi keeping) the information is accurate and reasonably up to date. I was hoping for more in-depth information on pond filtration components and choices.
