You're a square man, Bill, an' I'm a gambler, but you saved my life oncet, an' I wouldn't steer you wrong. For God's sake, don't let 'em jump your ground, that's all.' "'Let who jump it? Congress has give us judges an' courts an' marshals—' I begins. "'That's just it. How you goin' to buck that hand? Them's the best cards in the deck. There's a man comin' by the name of McNamara. By John Kleber Reading a book more than a century old by a forgotten author makes me believe I'm the only one reading the Spoilers today or on any given night. That's a shame. This is a magnificent book. It is fast paced, beautifully crafted, and just plain entertaining. I know Beach had a tragic life but he left us a good read. Maybe it's my love of the North that drew me to it but it's the story that kept me with it. One paragraph on the description of the small locomotive engine in the chapter on Dynamite is brilliant. Why don't authors write like this today?
