It covered them in a no nonsense way that I appreciated very much, and brought back my days of grade school when I first studied them. The basic concepts such as the commutative laws and associative laws are covered with some examples. Quadratic equations and polynomials are briefly discussed. The last few chapters covered matrices, which are topics that man readers may not have experienced in their public education. I learned them in my first few years at the university, but they are essential for the field I have worked in: computer science. There are very nice explanations of what they are and how they work, so if you are new to them, than this will be a nice way to dive in.There are some pop references sprinkled in now and then just to make things fun (e.g. introducing matrices by talking about the movie The Matrix).Overall, I recommend this book to all who want to remember old topics and pick up (possibly) new ones. It won't teach you the basics. For that, you'd have to use a textbook with more examples and exercises, but that's not the purpose of this book. At the end, the author says as much, and gives advice for carrying one's studies on further without giving specific titles, which I though was sensible. Quite a nice little book!
