About the Author AMELIA SOPHIA LE FEUVRE (1861-1929) was born in Blackheath, London, England. Her father, Edmond Philip Le Feuvre, worked as a Surveyor at H. M. Customs. Her grandfather, James Mainguy, was a reverend in Guernsey. She dedicated her life to writing and wrote many books and stories that are filled with Biblical principles.

The opening pages state that this book was published in 1899.*** Spoiler free reviewThe Dane sisters have been kicked out of their home due to a sneaky cousin. He swooped down on their aunt just before she died and convinced her to change her will. Agatha, Clare, Gwen, and Elfie make their way out to the country to live in a meager home.What a lovely story. Each sister carries her own distinct personality. The author presents us with a handful of situations and shows us four unique reactions to it. I found the writing to be quick and bold - sarcastic and funny in many places. Not at all as stuffy as some other titles I've read from this era.The townsfolk of Brambleton are so fun: judgmental (and hysterical) Miss Miller, the aging spinster twins, and grumpy Major Lester.At the beginning of the book the women are each given a Bible verse by their old nanny. Each verse fits well with their personality and is an integral part of the story.Even though this book is titled The Carved Cupboard - the main focus is on each sister's character and journey into finding their place in life and with God. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is the story of Faith and how it works in ones life. For those who already had Faith and those who had none but needed to learn it the story leads the reader through the trials of 4 Sisters who fall on hard times and learn to work their way through the trials. It is light reading but a great little rainy day book to make you feel good and see the best in the world.

It wasn't so detailed that it became boring, it's not bogged down, it's fairly fast paced. I would like to thank Maggie, a fellow reviewer, for introducing me to Amy Le Feuvre.
