About the Author Robert A. Chilicky was born in Morenci. He graduated from Morenci High School in 1988 and also attended Clifton schools. Gerald D. Hunt came to Morenci at a young age and graduated from the high school in 1964. He worked at the mine and was principal of Clifton High School in the early 1980s. Both authors share a deep love for the communities they grew up in. In collaboration with the Greenlee County Historical Society and several devoted friends, they present this pictorial history of one of the most important copper mining districts in the world.

The photos in this book bring back many memories. The Morenci I knew is long gone: the town site, the hospital, the schools I attended, the homes we lived in, were all torn down or buried, engulfed by the expanding open pit mine. Many thanks to the authors for their research into the history of this interesting area and especially for all the old photos..

The history is fascinating and you'll love trying to identify where the old photos were taken in relation to childhood memories. It would be great to have included some maps rather than having to jump through the mental exercises of the location descriptions. All my family are getting this for Christmas.
