By shortandtothepoint A dry and somewhat informative book about Dalcroze, his philosophy, and his school. I was hoping for more ideas on teaching using his method. I read it pretty much in one sitting because I was eager for the information. Much of it read like a travel brochure for Hellerau.Very little here for someone eager to use the method. I recommend the book Rhythm and Movement: Applications of Dalcroze Eurhythmics to get some great ideas on how to turn your music classroom into a "moving" experience.

Mastering the art of conversation and developing self-esteem By excellentwheels This book is an excellent step-by-step guide to understanding and mastering the fine art of conversation and speaking the advice in this book can be applied to everything from public speaking for politicians to making pleasant conversation or Smalltalk to ensure that you make a positive first impression for a job interview or it can help you figure out what to say on a first date and even how to tell stories to your kids or grandkids as if you were Homer, or the Brothers Grimm. This book will teach you turn your tongue to silver and make your words flow like watercolors on a canvas.I stumbled across this book because I have always been fascinated by words and how they can have a direct effect on people’s lives and the reasons why some people are better with words than others and how those that have the gift of gab tend to be more successful than those that have difficulty expressing themselves. This book has proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that having a way with words and being able to express yourself accurately and with feeling is a skill that can be learned and perfected over time and I will definitely be applying some of the techniques and advice in this book the next time I have to give a presentation as a docent at my local history Museum and I will also make sure to be more mindful of the words and phrases I use while engaging in conversation as according to this book words and the feeling place behind them can mean the difference between a quality meaningful conversation or just simple Smalltalk that will be forgotten about. By Victoria "The average person navigates the world with themselves as the center." Best line in the book, and one of many tips that has helped me broaden my social experiences. I am familiar with a couple of other titles from Patrick King, so I decided to pick up this one. I am an introvert by nature, and I have suffered from social anxiety since age 13. This book has helped me tame my social anxiety and has provided me with valuable knowledge that has allowed me to enhance my social relationships. I will probably never get over the initial butterflies in my tummy-nervousness that comes with social anxiety, but thanks to this book I have made immense progress in my social interactions. I finally have the confidence to start conversations and keep conversations going and gone are my panic attacks from awkward conversations and the inability to speak and engage in conversations. With the knowledge obtained in this book, I have developed not only personal relationships, but professional ones as well. With tips and information from this book as my guide, I have been able to excel in job interviews. My social anxiety has been a hindrance in my career. Job interviews were always difficult for me, I always would fumble once I came face to face with a potential employer, and missed out on a lot of great opportunities that way. Yet I am writing this review today because thanks to what I have learned in this book, I have just recieved an email this morning from a company I interviewed with Wednesday, inviting me to a 2nd interview! I am so excited! Thanks to what I have learned from this book, I have gained an opportunity to advance my career! Patrick King is the King of the human psyche! This author understands humanity and truly seeks to improve us, one title at a time! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to aquire the skills to be adored and admired in life through enhanced conversational skills, and I especially recommend it to anyone suffering from social anxiety, like me or natural introverts, also like me, who just want to improve their social interactions.

The chapters are extremely short and hardly cover much material. Very rarely would you find a useful nugget. On his Amazon page it looks like he churns out a new book every three months so maybe he should focus on taking the time to write one detailed book.

Carson pursues Duare the janjong across Amtor By Lawrance Bernabo "Lost on Venus" is the second volume in Edgar Rice Burrough's Carson of Venus series and a rather ironic title since our hero left Earth on a spaceship headed for Mars but ended up on Venus because he forgot to take into account the moon's gravitational pull. Fortunately it turns out that Venus not only has a breathable atmosphere but is inhabited. In "Pirates of Venus," Carson Napier learns about the politics and culture of the planet called Amtor and fell in love with Duare, the daughter of a jong (i.e., she is a princess). Of course, in grand ERB tradition, by the end of that first novel Carson and his beloved were separated by a cruel fate (she is carried away by a flying creature and he is captured by a Thorist spy, and the time has come for him to do something about that.Originally published as a serial in "Argosy Weekly" in 1933, this pulp fiction adventure is communicated to ERB by Napier himself, using telepathy (I liked the Gridley from the Barsoom books better). Carson is held captive and is put in a room where there are seven doors: one leads to escape, the rest to horrible deaths. This is a fairly interesting start to the story and ERB has some fun coming up with a way for his hero to get out of this predicament. Carson, who is given the name Albargan ("No-Hair-Man") by the natives, catches up with Duare, who keeps insisting that he is too low to speak to her since she is a janjong and he is a nobody. There are some interesting science fiction notions, as when Carson considers the Amtorian theory of the cosmos, which is totally wrong since the planet's constant cloud cover keeps them from seeing anything else in the solar system.Even though you find all of the standard Burroughs elements from the romantic adventure formula that made him famous as Carson pursues Duare, "Lost on Venus" really is more of a political polemic than his standard stories. This book continues the political satire of the series with the Thorists clearly intended to represent the Communists and it is hard not to see the scientifically advanced city of Havatoo as representing an Aryan wonderland in the Nazi tradition (later on in the series ERB clearly takes aim at Mussolini's brand of fascism as well). "Pirates of Venus" is not really considered a dystopian novel, but in terms of predicting the political evils that would lead to World War II, Burroughs was fairly accurate. This was the last of the major series that ERB created and during the 1930s it really represented his best work, which would seem to indicate that his political passions in the Venus books worked to his advantage.

Space-faring earthman Carson Napier was separated from his beloved princess Duare at the conclusion of the previous novel. Now, he is after her once again, determined to get her home safely to her kingdom of Vepaja, and the result is the literary equivalent of one of the old Saturday morning serials with just a pinch of social commentary. From the Room of the Seven Doors, down the River of Death to the City of the Dead, where a mad scientist presides over a kingdom of zombies, and the beautiful city of Havatoo, which is a paradise but only if your lineage is pure, Carson and Duare bounce from predicament to predicament. Will they survive their adventures? Will Duare drop her haughty facade and accept Carson's love? Is there any doubt? Not really, but getting there is the fun. This series benefits by being more humorous than most of Burroughs' work.

It picks up right where the previous book left off, with Carson Napier in the hands of his enemies. He manages to escape and reunites with his ladylove, the beautiful princess Duare. They go through many adventures in an attempt to return to Duare's hometown, eventually becoming seperated again. Carson meets another beautiful princess, Nalte, and has further adventures. Does Carson reunite with Duare by the end of the book? I won't tell, but I'm sure you can guess. This is typical Burroughs, which will appeal to people who like old fashioned adventure stories.

A must read By Marc Bekoff Most of us have seen homeless people on the streets, many accompanied by their nonhuman animal (animal) companions (pets), especially dogs. On any given night there are about 640,000 homeless people in the United States, however estimates vary quite a lot. It's also been estimated that 5-10% of homeless people have dogs or cats as their companions but the numbers vary geographically and it's difficult to come up with highly accurate statistics. Nonetheless, there is a large number of animals who live with homeless humans and in many cases the animals are the lifeline and reason for living for these people without a home, human beings living in a stigmatized and marginalized environment in which few if any would choose to live.Homeless people have told me on more than one occasion that their animal companion is their best friend and oxygen without whom life wouldn't be worth living. For many their animal friend is their only family. Last year while I was eating lunch in my hometown of Boulder (Colorado) I started talking with a homeless man named Joe and he told me that when he lost his job and became homeless he sold many of his very few possessions so that he could keep his dog, Clive, without whom Joe wouldn't be able to or want to live. I've heard similar stories in cities around the world.Homeless people are often viewed with suspicion or fear. When people see homeless and their animals they do a number of things. Some give them money or food and some look away. Others judge them unworthy of animal companionship. Whatever the reaction, most of us would have no idea how to survive on the street with (or without) an animal.This new book by University of Colorado sociology Professor Leslie Irvine is the first to explore what it takes to live on the streets with an animal. Using interviews with more than seventy homeless people in four cities, My Dog Always Eats First reveals what animals mean for homeless people and how they care for their four-legged friends. This is a genuinely fantastic and rare look into the lives of the homeless, and their animals. We are really glad to have interviewd her and to have had the chance to read this book.

About the Author A woman of many talents - Daviess wrote 13 novels, made a mark in artistic circles, and lent massive support to the woman suffrage movement. After graduating as an art student from Peabody College, Nashville she travelled to Europe. There she earned great acclaim for her photographs and miniatures. In 1904 she returned to America and started teaching art. Her interest then shifted to writing and she penned 13 novels and an autobiography, Seven Times Seven (1923), in a span of fifteen years. Her writings are known for their optimism. She also adapted her novels for stage. Daviess was a great supporter of the women's right to vote and played a vital role in helping women of Tennessee attain this goal.

The overweight Molly recieves help from the doctor on losing her extra weight, while at the same time, finding the love she wants. A happy tale, of love and family, it is a sweet, comfortable read.

Hart A distant cousin gave me her copy of this book--it had been given to her by my great-grandma, and she'd read it time and time again. She warned me, though, that there were outdated notions in the book and that it wouldn't be acceptable by today's standards.There is some truth to what she said; the book's age is apparent in many ways. The sort of small, gossipy, isolated town Molly lives in still exists today, but is not so common as it was in Molly's time. One can hope that a modern doctor wouldn't support, let alone suggest, some of the weight-loss measures Molly takes. And, of course, standards for widows--and for women in general--have changed.But Molly's personality is more timeless than the societal issues. Her frivolity, her fickle flirtation, and the realizations she makes as she becomes less childish all contribute to her likability and the writing's believability. Furthermore, the buildup to the climax is excellent. This book may never be considered a classic, but it is thoroughly enjoyable--a perfect read for a rainy afternoon.

Woman After her youthful love, Alfred Bennett, moves away to Europe, heartbroken Molly is talked into marrying ol' stick-in-the-mud Mr. Carter. He kicks the bucket after a few years. Now that she's free again, Alfred dares to renew his plight with love letters and the promise to return for her in their small Tennessee town. While Molly is ecstatic, she's also a little bit worried because, well, it's been a couple of years and she's kinda put on a couple of pounds since last Alfred saw her. And who hasn't! It happens to the best of us! There's nothing wrong with being slightly overweight!*Ahem*Molly rushes over to her neighbor, Doctor John Moore, for advice on how to shed those extra pounds. (Thus the "Melting" of the title.) As she starts to lose weight, she also starts to lose that excess baggage she's been carrying around and sees the world with fresh eyes. She also sees Judge Wade, the handsome unmarried man who seems to have just seen her as well. Then there's always her flirtatious cousin, Tom Pollard, who's the first to notice that Molly is slowly coming out of her mourning and back into the world. But we all know that it's Doc John and his precocious son Billy that Molly really needs to hook up with, if only these two adult would get their heads on straight and admit their feelings.

I have been relatively successful with my own endeavors online but not without falling victim to tons of so-called "opportunities" that were merely a waste of time and money. Jillian Green has done a very nice job of putting together a list of honest and legitimate programs that work to produce income from the comfort of your home with nothing more than a computer and an internet connection. I have personally tried and tested several of the opportunities mentioned in this book in my entrepreneurial journey and can honestly say that they are 100% Legitimate and that they do work. It's a great place to start for anyone willing to suspend their doubt and give it a try. No get rich overnight schemes here... but definitely honest and legitimate work at home opportunities.

Unlike many other similar books, this one does not propose typical freelance platform for working, but it suggests some other possibilities for affiliate marketing. I like the fact that this book gives pros and cons of every proposed working platform, so you can get one objective image about those.

If the author means "legal", okay. But here's what this book is really about: trying to get you to click through her affiliate link to join these programs, most of which are about getting paid to look at advertisements.Um, some of us have better things to do with our time.The one "opportunity" I would consider semi-legit is the survey one. Then again, you don't get paid much for time with surveys. To me, a "legitimate" business involves getting paid for a product or service people genuinely need. None of the programs the author talks about fits. (And the writing is super amateurish, to boot.)
