She has overcome some major challenges in her life - lymphoma (twice), a divorce, the economic downturn that resulted in the elimination of funding for SerPaz training in schools, and the death of her father - and has used these boulders of despair to solidify her concept of The Connection Practice methodology she so very successful introduced and used for more than 40,000 school children in Costa Rica (as SerPaz) and now it's used by individuals, schools, organizations and businesses in the United States.In COMPLETELY CONNECTED Rita shares the Connection Practice, `a method of social-emotional learning that unites empathy and insight and achieves extraordinary results. Empathy is attained through a conscious connection to feelings and needs, and insight is accessed through heart-brain coherence. The synergy in this partnership maximizes intelligence, builds resilience and enhances performance. If the essence of her Connection process were to be confined to two words those words would be Insight and empathy, but it is the manner in which she presents her powerful connection that makes everyone who reads her book a believer. Everyone Wins with the Connection Practice By cathyholt I really love how Rita Marie gives so many examples of people of all ages, nationalities, and walks of life who have embraced and benefited from the Connection Practice...from the little Costa Rican boy whose aggressive behavior went away as soon as he had the heart insight "You need more sleep," to the father and son who were finally able to forgive each other, to a 12-stepper realizing "I got the skill set that transformed me from codependent behavior to unconditional love and acceptance." Rita Marie shares with the reader how she used the practices to get her through some very rough spots, such as having lymphoma, and losing funding for her school program. Her book is full of nuggets of wisdom, such as "Instead of criticizing and shaming bullies, it's far more transformative to teach them how to connect to themselves and others." I recommend this book to teachers, parents, CEOs, and anyone seeking to communicate more empathically with themselves and others.

By mountain girl There are pages of acknowledgements and reviews at the beginning of the book. There is a lot of background praising the system without much explaining of what it is. Maybe if you are familiar with this system, it makes sense but for me it feels like another language is being spoken and we haven’t been taught the basics.The actual information presented in the book could be condensed down to a few pages. The chapter summaries are all that are needed. It reads like a research paper, combining studies and details of other peoples’ work without a clear interpretation. This is the type of book I normally like to read, but I struggled to get through it. There just wasn’t a lot of substance. It all just feels like a big advertisement for the classes and products. A revision has been done, to make it easier to read on Kindle Touch and laptop. Some of the charts and diagrams are still running off the page or too small to read but there aren't too many of these.
