Briggs While many films and books have dwelt on graphic descriptions of the carnage associated with this most important battle in the Civil War, Joseph Altsheler presents a measured description of the unbridled violence of the Battle of Gettysburg, in consideration of his younger readers. However, the intensity of the battle, the horrific casualties, and intimate descriptions of the strategies employed in the battle, as experienced by Harry Kenton, the young Confederate soldier, are excellent. The fifth in the Altsheler series, the book continues with the alternating wartime experiences of the two first cousins from the border state of Kentucky as the series continues its march toward the inevitable conclusion of the war. This fact-based series is truly excellent for any reader and "Civil War buff."
