By Edward long A personal experience of "God" is the alpha and omega of human achievement, and is not the province of any one religion.Those beings who through their ardent desire and persevering efforts have attained this union with "Eternal Love" beyond the capacity of our minds to separate, classify, and label, are an inspiration to all of us. "Mysticism" is an apt word to describe this path, and this book gives an an excellent explanation of mysticism. It is more relevant today than when it was written, I highly reccomend to anyone searching for something more than what is offered in the popular "self help"books, and weekly prayer meetings.

Evelyn Underhill has become my new best friend and spiritual guide. I love how she never forgets to remind the reader of the incarnational aspect of all true spirituality. The human and divine, imminent and transcendent, contemplative and active, always engaged in healthy tension, never separate, in perpetual dance.

It's not an easy read, but it's not meant to be. Underhill is brilliant in her ability to focus on the nature of our relationship with God and what that means in our everyday lives.
