From the Back Cover Richard Mann was born and raised in the West Virginia hills and has hunted from the Montana mountains to the green hills of Africa. He has a military, law enforcement, firearms instructing, and competitive shooting background, has authored several books, and currently contributes to a variety of periodicals. Richard lives on Shadowland--his shooting range hidden in the West Virginia hills--with the most understanding wife in the world, their three kids, and a very protective Rhodesian ridgeback. This book is a collection of some of his hunting stories. Some are sad, some are happy, some are nostalgic. Most are true--or close enough to true for the campfire. Hopefully they will all touch your hunter's heart.
About the Author Richard Mann was born and raised in the West Virginia hills and has hunted from the Montana mountains to the green hills of Africa. During his military and law enforcement career Richard obtained numerous certifications in small arms instruction and has trained military personnel, law enforcement officers and civilians in the application of firearms for defensive, competitive and recreational use. Richard now contributes to Field & Stream, SHOT Business and SHOT Daily, American Rifleman, American Hunter, Shooting Illustrated, and the Guns and Handgunner Special Editions. Richard is currently working on his next book, The Scout Rifle Study.

Witty, entertaining and humble By El Jefe Under Orion is a series of short stories by Richard Mann that cover a wide range of hunts throughout Mann’s life. They include his early childhood coon hunting days with his father to his African adventures hunting kudu with his son. The stories are engaging, entertaining, well written and more importantly leave you wanting more. They each stand on their own, without ever being repetitive and are often humorous, like Richard’s fight with a Bobcat on the bank of a river. The stories come across as honest, humble accounts and convey the primal essence of what it is to be a hunter. It’s also inspiring how vividly, Mann sets the scenery of a hunt with few words. Overall, it’s great read even for the hunter and non-hunter. You’ll find yourself checking your shoes for dirt and wondering where the smell of the campfire smoke is coming from.

Short of inventing a time machine you will not find a better way to be transported to another time and place. Dick has been there and done that and this collection of jewels will give you an honest front row seat in the action. An easy read with the stories being just the right length. I guarantee you will enjoy it.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful stories By meece Memories so thick that you can't brush them away. Beautiful stories and sentiments sure to lend a mist to the eye. I love the book and felt like I was transported to that time and place. If life is about collecting pictures that you can take with you when you go, this is a precious portfolio.
