Putting Boomerang Creek on Your Map By Susan Fifer Canby Reading "Notes from Boomerang Creek" by Cathy Salter is to sit with a cup of good coffee and fresh warm buttery croissant and linger over the observations and thoughts of a well read, well travelled, culturally aware wanderer. It took me a year to finish this book, because I so loved the luxury of reading one saga at a time...not gobbling it down at one sitting, particularly since it was compiled over a period of ten years.I loved taking the time to delight in the richness of Cathy's voice that so deftly interweaves her travel, reading, gardening and culinary experiences to produce a rich tapestry of seemingly simple stories that celebrate family and friendships, seasons of life, local and world events, the natural world, the dance... all written in perfect bite sized pieces.In the sensitive observations and descriptions of geographer/teacher Cathy Salter, the unlikely Missouri landscape of rural Boomerang Creek becomes peopled with characters and events that long warm the reader's memories.

The individual pieces are impeccably written, each with its own internal logic, its own reason for being, while taken together, they testify to the enduring humanity of the author, Cathy Salter. It isn't long before you begin to see the casual encounters and background details of your own world in a different light. Highly recommended.
