"[...]in the Ancient Mariner; but these flicker and go out. The style would be laughable in its simplicity if there were not in it some almost awing touch of innocence; some hint of that divine goodness which, in Lamb, needed the relief and savour of the later freakishness to sharpen it out of insipidity. There is already a sense of what is tragic and endearing in earthly existence, though no skill as yet in presenting it; and the moral of it is surely one of the morals or messages of Elia: 'God has built a brave world, but methinks he has left his creatures to bustle in it how they may.' Lamb had no sense of narrative, or, rather, he cared in a story only for the moments when it seemed to[...]".

Publication date: 1916Arthur Symons was a poet and critic, a minor Decadent, somewhat looked down upon by Oscar Wilde and Max Beerbohm. It is hard to escape the notion that he was the model for Enoch Soames: a memory of the eighteen-nineties.The essays are arranged chronologically by subject, and so one must linger a few centuries over Saint Augustine, John Donee, Casanova, Emily Bronte and Edgar Allan Poe before Mr. Symons really begins to get interesting. Coventry Patmore may be about 1/10,000 as important as Saint Augustine, but Symons's personal recollections of this older minor poet have a freshness and interest no one can attain about Augustine and other 'greats.' His essay on Walter Pater is likewise intimate and revealing:... Of De Quincey he spoke with an admiration which I had difficulty in sharing, and I remember his showing me with pride a set of his works bound in half-parchment, with pale gold lettering on the white backs, and with the cinnamon edges which he was so fond of. Of Flaubert we rarely met without speaking. He thought Julien l'Hospitalier as perfect as anything he had done. L'Education Sentimentale was one of the books which he advised me to read; that, and Le Rouge et le Noir of Stendhal; and he spoke with particular admiration of two episodes in the former, the sickness and the death of the child. Of the Goncourts he spoke with admiration tempered by dislike. Their books often repelled him, yet their way of doing things seemed to him just the way things should be done; and done before almost any one else.Or consider this reflection, prompted by a quote from a letter:'I send this prompt answer, for I know by experience that when I delay my delays are apt to be lengthy.' A review took him sometimes a year to get through; and remained in the end, like his letters, a little cramped, never finished to the point of ease, like his published writings.

Review “This book does an admirable job of presenting the rationale for the formulas, which should help the student understand the material more deeply. Additionally, the examples used by the author do a nice job of helping students walk through the process of applying the formulas to address research hypotheses.” (Arin M. Connell)“I have been impressed with the author’s ability to explain statistical constructs in a straightforward manner.” (James E. Lennon)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Review from someone who is bad at math: By Newly declared MATH NERD! I have never been a strong math student; I have always had trouble making sense of numbers and received a D in my spring 2015 stats course.I have always used my textbook for math classes to copy down the problem and attempt to make the answer match the one in the back, praying that the homework only consisted of odd numbered problems because they were the only answers provided. Straightforward Statistics is written unlike any math textbook I have ever used. This textbook allowed me to conceptualize the statistical concepts we learned by providing relevant example problems and very clearly breaking down the different procedures introduced in each chapter. Each chapter thoroughly covers a concept or statistical test in a way that breaks down to WHY you would use it as well as how to do so. The beginning of each chapter clearly states what the reader is expected to gain from it. Throughout the chapter are “pop quizzes” and awesome note bubbles that point out: things to focus on, the author’s insights on a certain procedure, and hints on how to look at problems differently. The end of the chapter provides: a concise recap of the method learned (written in a way that someone with ZERO stats experience could totally grasp), a list of key terms and definitions and a learning assessment with a variety of problems to test your understanding.I have never before had any reason to enjoy reading a math book, nor have I ever felt the need to write a review of one. This book reads like a narrative, not an endless list of equations to memorize. After using this textbook in my inferential statistics course I was shocked to discover that I not only understood the material, but I absolutely loved learning about it. I finished my fall 2015 semester with a solid B in statistics (and it COULD have been an A if I had managed my time properly on our first exam!).I am currently in my final semester of my undergraduate degree. My major is psychology. My initial graduate and professional plans/goals focused mainly on studying behavior and learning and expanding upon different psychological theories. After learning to view statistics with the same enthusiasm and love as the author so obviously does, I was forced to allow myself to consider a previously unattainable education route that focuses intensely on analyzing data. Fields such as quantitative psychology and applied behavioral statistics are now in my radar.I always assumed that only those with a genius IQ ever actually enjoyed playing with math, though now I find myself (previously considered BAD at math....) super excited to apply the statistical tests that I learned in this book to various data that I encounter. I am now able to take a seemingly random group of numbers and be confident in my ability to make them mean something; AND completely understand what my results mean and why a specific test is used.I never expected keep a math textbook on my desk and refer to it regularly, sometimes just for fun, to see what the numbers "look like"! I have also never wanted to write over 500 words on how AWESOME I think my math text is. This book allowed me to develop a confidence that I thought was lost in my previous battle with numbers.I am still baffled by how excited I am about statistics. Straightforward Statistics is truly the best textbook I have used for any type of course. I whole-heartedly recommend this book to any and all that are dreading taking a stats course. This book allowed me to broaden my educational interests and for that I am thankful.

By k.anon I selected this book for my students because I liked the explanations and felt it covered more than traditional textbooks (for example, it teaches t-tests for when equal variances are not assumed). I was disappointed in the ANOVA chapter because it does not describe repeated measures or two-factor ANOVA. I already had materials and slides for this and felt this flaw was not enough to select another book. Given how reasonably priced this textbook is, I feel comfortable knowing I am not placing an excessive financial burden on my students. All around, a solid textbook. The two primary criticisms I have are: The ANOVA chapter feels incomplete, and much to my surprise, the student edition has all the answers in the back (not just odd questions). This makes the book less practical for assigning homework from but better for students who wish to get extra practice.

A good spy mystery and romance By Bonnie Lo Following the tale of an intrigue from the point of a diplomatic official, Gerald Ingram, in the golden age of royalty where beginnings of intelligence services were found. This official attached to the British embassy in Paris has his hands full - he's trying to figure out how secret diplomatic messages are being intercepted when only two people - the foreign minister and the ambassador who he reports to - know the cipher. An old enemy appears on the scene, suspicious and under a different name. Finally, although he is engaged to a lovely woman back in England, he tries to figure out his own heart when surprised by the arrival and presence of his first love in Paris. On top of that, this first love is clouded by suspicious by friends and allies who accuse her of being a spy against his interests.William Le Queux is a good storyteller, and the state of this genre in the last 1800's leading up to the first world war should be considered when evaluating the flow of the story, but it is otherwise worth the time to read.

Sustainable Materials Without the Hot Air: Making Buildings, Vehicles and Products Efficiently and with Less New Material, by Julian M. Allwood, Jonathan M. Cullen

Review "Though the authors have expertise in their subject, and it shows, they also write engagingly, explaining production methods and yield analysis in a way that a general audience can understand, and that will hopefully inspire industry to put these ideas into practice." —Jeff Fleischer, Foreword Reviews"An excellent book . . . the message is clear and convincing: We can’t go on using materials the way we have been for the past 150 years, but fortunately, we don’t have to. We can meet the world’s growing need for the stuff of modern life, avoid the worst effects of climate change, and preserve the environment for future generations . . . . Although the topic can be dry as a desert, the authors keep it light with lots of colorful illustrations and clever analogies without sacrificing clarity or rigor. I learned a lot from this thoughtful look at a critical topic." —Bill Gates, gatesnotes.com on first edition

About the Author Julian M. Allwood is a professor in engineering at the University of Cambridge, where he leads the Low Carbon Materials Processing research group. Jonathan M. Cullen is university lecturer in the University of Cambridge engineering department. They both have extensive experience working in the engineering industry, in addition to their numerous research projects.

But unfortunately the Kindle formatting is very poor. The paper (and PDF) versions contain brilliantly coloured diagrams and schematics, but on the kindle the graphs are too small as well as being almost entirely indecipherable, thanks to all the colours being rendered into similar shades of grey. The footnotes are also messed up in the kindle presentations.

By sarahwiser merrillee Folks, the problem will be, if we are honest, that our contractors in most areas of the country, do not have this book, but should. How can we get this information out there? A woman I know is her own General Contractor, and had to order most of the supplies because her contractors down here in the Lower Rio Grande Valley do not KNOW HOW even to ORDER this sort of product. She did, and only therefore got them. But even the Building Inspectors don't know how to approve them. How sad that we are so slow to do what is needed.

DOING MORE WITH LESS By DAVID BRYSON The planet that we live on, and that we depend on for our day-to-day sustenance and survival, is not a bottomless pit. It needs no engineering professors come from Cambridge to tell us this, you may say, but the message seems only to be sinking in very haphazardly with the general public. There must be whole libraries of learned tomes on the subject of sustainable resources, but what we have here is a textbook that also does its best to be readable by the rest of us. It’s ourselves – the voting public – who really matter, because we have the numbers to force through change if we can stir ourselves to do that. How near a date is 2050, would you say? I won’t be alive then, but my children ought to be and my grandchildren will still be in their 30s. By that date the world community is supposed to have halved its carbon emissions, the ‘greenhouse gases’ widely believed among scientists to be warming our environment to a dangerous extent, and it looks as if we had better believe that and do something about it before it’s all too late. It’s over-production and over-consumption that are doing the damage, so the route to a solution, if there is one, must be to get all that under control. The watchword is ‘sustainable’. Slowing down our over-consumption is good so far as it goes, but it is only postponing disaster. We owe it to generations we will never know that they should have a habitable planet, and this ambitious book with its positive message deserves thanks as well as credit for organising our thinking for us.The bulk of the carbon emissions come from steel and aluminium processing, so the analysis is mainly concerned with those industries, with shorter sections on cement, paper and plastics, although even the clothing trade makes a brief appearance. The authors see it as necessary to look at the issues with two eyes rather than one, and it would be hard not to agree. To me as I read carefully the distinction was not as clear or firm as it is to the writers. I was looking for a step-change from one category to the other, and I only found it partially. In the ‘one-eyed’ perceptions the story was all about managerial efficiencies – letting less product go to waste, avoiding over-specification, technological advances etc. When we open both eyes we actually find a good deal more of the same sort of thing, just tightened up. I was looking for strategy, not just super-housekeeping, important indeed essential though that is. The strategic insights are allowed to peep through, and one can hardly blame the authors for being so canny about them. What is needed is a change of the public mind, and politics being politics and folks being folks that is going to invite obvious comparisons with Mao’s Great Leap Forward and other even worse initiatives: how do you change the public mind? With difficulty, I guess, but unless we, the public, change it for ourselves the blight is going to be creeping up on us while we try to look the other way or blame it on political attitudes. How do you feel about living with less? In my early years, just after the war, it seemed a simple straight-line graph of increasing prosperity. The seventies gave us pause, but not for long, and we resumed our merry way until it became clear that there was no straight line. At last we the public were beginning to understand that we had a job to do in gaining a grasp of the underlying realities and not just leaving it all to our politicians while at the same time affecting not to believe anything they said. We tried ‘revolution’ and such like childishness, but gradually we understood that we needed, however reluctantly, to inform ourselves. And that is where this fine book comes in. It is (so far as I can tell) a reputable scientific textbook by reputable academic scientists that gives the rest of us the chance to gain a proper understanding of an issue that that has no respect for our status, academic, scientific, politically committed or anything else of the kind.Even at the ‘one-eyed’ level, the cultural changes called for are mind-boggling. After decades of doing obeisance to growth in the GDP how are we going to adapt to lower production levels and cars that will last for 20 years while inflicting on us the ultimate indignity of having to wind down the windows by hand? I don’t know, but again the authors have an en-passant remark at one point to the effect that such attitudinal adjustments tend to come about when the ogre is staring us in the face. There is one real and urgent warning to be given. Aside from a reference in a footnote, the book has one reference to nuclear electricity generation, which it welcomes with innocent enthusiasm. I wonder whether the authors can have read Nuclear Power by Walter C Paterson, another very readable (and also quite short) volume. To believe that the transportation and storage of nuclear wastes can ever be safe you have to do what our authors here do and simply ignore the issues. On the one hand Allwood and Cullen are admirably honest in refusing to commit to Carbon Capture and Storage. Too right, but the nuclear issue is immeasurably bigger. Remember that you can’t destroy nuclear material, you can only take it somewhere else. Oh right, so where? Where indeed. Have we just given ourselves two new problems where we might have hoped to find some kind of answers? Absolutely we have, and that’s the nature of the issue we face.A superb book in every other way.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Authentic History - Laced with social commentary By Greenshirt I chose this book as a referred classic - a first hand history of the Sailing Navy. To that end the book was faithful and good. Chapters spent in commenting to the societal truths of Navy life added depth, but also slowed down the read. Melville is very often subtle in sarcasm - you kind of need to pick through his words a second or third time to get his meaning.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Herman Melville's Most Important Book By lj-bob This somewhat-forgotten book shows he was an activist who really accomplished humane changes in the US Navy, through this book. In that way, it was more important than his best-known novel, "Moby Dick." It should be included in modern school curricula.

Here is the essential guide to the human brain, an authoritative reference book and timeline that examines the three pounds of matter inside our heads that does all our thinking for us. With 100 billion nerve cells joined by thousands more to every corner of the body, the brain is wired together with 100 trillion connections. That makes each and every human brain a contender for the most complex system in the universe, endowing us with an intellect that far outstrips any other creature. However, one difficult question remains: Are we intelligent enough to understand our own brains?Follow the journey as history s greatest brains, including Avicenna, Thomas Willis, Charles Darwin, and Paul Broca, try to figure it out by linking structure to function. How does the brain control the body, make sense of our surroundings, and allow us to understand, empathize with, and love other people and their brains? And how does it create that most mysterious feature of the universe, consciousness?

  • 100 chronological articles tell the story of neuroscience from the dawn of history to the present day.
  • Authoritative text, exciting imagery, and helpful diagrams accompany each of the steps along the way.
  • Biographies of great neuroscientists and a functional map of the brain boost the content for all readers.
  • This simple guide to neuroscience draws together current understanding and sets out the basics of the field.
  • A 24-page removable foldout concertina neatly housed at the back of the book includes a 12-page Timeline History of the Brain and 12 pages of optical illusions that demonstrate how our view of the world comes entirely from the brain which can sometimes be fooled.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Over 100 Topics and Biographies regarding the Brain By Conny “These brain detectives have discovered many amazing things, but there are many mysteries that still need to be solved,” Tom Jackson states in the introduction of his book, The Brain – An Illustrated History of Neuroscience.~ What ~This one hundred and sixty-eight page over-sized hardbound is one of the Ponderables series dedicated to trying to answer some of the oldest and important subjects in history. Each book discusses one hundred breakthroughs that changed history and who did what and when in a particular topic. This book caters to one hundred milestones that changed the way we perceive and understand our brain.Unlike like its predecessors, the book contains a chronological listing of brain topics. Each breakthrough discussed is from a half page to two pages long, mentioning the year discovered, by whom, and how with tidbits of interesting particulars and pictures or diagrams. After the topics, the book explains the basics of the brain. Next there are eleven interesting “Imponderables” that are yet to be ascertained. Finally, there are short biographies of thirty-nine neuroscientists, resources, index, and acknowledgments along with an extensive fold-out timeline history of neuroscience on one side and a dozen visual teasers on the other side.Covering the one hundred ponderables, discussions range from Ancient Theories of Sleep, the Nature of Knowledge, and Neurotransmitters to the Limbic System, Brain Machines, and Persinger’s God Helmet. Some of the great scientists include Avicenna, Franz Joseph Gall, Paul Broca, David Ferrier, and Georges Gilles de la Tourette.Readers are immediately drawn to the colorful, detailed photographs, artworks, and diagrams, learning about our amazing brains and their capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses.~ Why ~Jackson’s series is impressive and in-depth. Having owned several of his books, I find the most interesting part being the unanswered eleven “Ponderables” such as being right-handed, crying, understanding, minimal brain functioning, time, recalling memory, predicting, and learning to talk. I like how the information given is presented with ample amount of information and visuals.~ Why Not ~Some readers may not enjoy books that educate and test the brain, so this one would not be for them.~ Who ~Author Jackson has spent over twenty years specializing in recasting science and technology into historical narratives. He and his family live in the United Kingdom.~ Wish ~I hope the author continues to produce more of these types of educational, engaging books. I find them so fascinating every time I open one.~ Want ~If you are looking for a great gift for the “brainiac” in your life, this would be an excellent choice. It would also be good for those wanting to go into medicine, brain surgery, or psychiatry. Thanks to Shelter Harbor Press for furnishing this complimentary book in exchange for a review based on the reader’s honest opinion.

The story focuses on the title character's mysterious malady. Every seven years, he falls into a trance-like state to emerge with one of two alternate personalities. This book has it all - insanity, death, a secret chamber, a ghost, revenge, duels, a court trial, star-crossed lovers, and a grisly ending. A must-read for fans of strange or gothic literature.

There was so much of it that Cervantes gave us in comical yet serious situations this book was hailed as the best book of all ti By Chiek The wit and wisdom of the characters of Don Quixote and Panza Sancho set the novel 'Don Quixote' on fire. There was so much of it that Cervantes gave us in comical yet serious situations, this book was hailed as the best book of all times. Although I cannot say if it is greatest book because I have not read all the books in the world to make a fair assessment. But certainly I will rank this book amongst the top 5 that I have read at this point in time.

The Rainbow Trail, by Zane Grey

Review "Poignant in its emotional qualities." --The New York Times

About the Author American author (Pearl Zane Grey) is best known as a pioneer of the Western literary genre, which idealized the Western frontier and the men and women who settled the region. Following in his father s footsteps, Grey studied dentistry while on a baseball scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania. Grey s athletic talent led to a short career in the American minor league before he established his dentistry practice. As an outlet to the tedium of dentistry, Grey turned to writing, and finally abandoned his dental practice to write full time. Over the course of his career Grey penned more than ninety books, including the best-selling Riders of the Purple Sage. Many of Grey s novels were adapted for film and television. He died in 1939.

From AudioFile In the hands of reader Ian Esmo, this introspective early Western involving Utah and the Mormons is slow and methodical. D.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine

It is the author's description of Red Lake, Kayenta, and Tsegi among others that makes this book so interesting. My Doctor told me about it, I bought it and have been passing it around to other people in town. Sorry Amazon. Sometimes the story drags a bit but that is Zane Grey. Sometimes his treatement of the Navajo is a bit stereotyped. Come to the four corners, stay awhile. Hike among the canyons and mesas. Get to know the people. Than read the book. You'll get much more out of it. There's an isolated cliff dwelling out here (somewhere near Tsegi Canyon, no more hints) where Zane Grey carved his name into the sandstone. He writes a pretty good description of the area and its people.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. An Adventure in Canyon Country By Ralph Vaughan This is a sequel to the classic "Riders of the Purple Sage," though the main characters from that book do not enter the plot till very near the end. Like the first book, this book is also a romance set in the west, but much of the time the characters and the plot are subordinate to the setting, and even when the characters and their actions take center stage, they have been changed through their experiences in the "crucible of the desert." Zane Grey wrote of the land through which he traveled and the people he met. Though much of the characterization is out of step with modern expectations and sensibilities, there is yet a strong sense of verisimilitude to them. The characters tend to fall into three categories -- Mormons, Gentiles (any white who is not Mormon), and Indians, and among those three groups we have characters who range from very noble and self-sacrificing to extremely evil and destructive. John Shefford has come from the East, wide-eyed and naive, and very quickly discovers that the sensibilities of his cultivated upbringing are definite detriments to his survival in the Canyon Country of the West. Having heard the story of Lassiter, one of the protagonists in "Riders of the Purple Sage," he is searching for the man, as well as young Fay Larkin. That search exposes him to experiences that burn away the chaff of his former life and reveal his true character, teaching him the meaning of truth, friendship, loyalty, honor and love, traits he thought he understood, but really did not. This is an extremely enjoyable book, and those who come to it expecting nothing more than a standard Western or "horse opera" will be pleasantly surprised.

Classic sequel to the great Zane Grey Western Riders of the Purple Sage By 49sim67 Classic sequel to the great Zane Grey Western Riders of the Purple Sage. This book closes the loop holes left open at the end of the initial book of this two book series. These two books are not only some of the best in the genre but also just great literature in their own right. Grey is a fantastic writer, and he paints a vivid picture in the minds eye concerning the countryside he is describing - in this case the canyon country of southwest Utah and northwest Arizona. If you have a Kindle you can't beat the price and even if you don't this book is well worth getting your hands on a paper copy. Good reading; be happy and stay young.

By K Quinn I love books on the care of ferrets and how it has changed over the last 100 years. As far as a guideline for caring for ferrets the info is completely wrong and out of date. From the perspective of seeing how much has changed in the last 100 years it's amazing how much improvements we've made in the care, feeding and housing of our favorite pet. If you wonder what ferrets did 100 years ago and how they were trained to work this book will fill in the gaps. In some ways the training of working ferrets hasn't changed, though the philosophy toward working them has. Ferrets worked to kill rats in apartment houses, businesses and farm barns and silos and ships before the introduction of poisons to kill rodents. Ferrets were used to kill rabbits, though ths book focuses solely on the businesses of using ferrets to kill rats. there is also a detailed description of the habits of rats.

A provocative collection of letters to his longtime friend and translator that spans Einstein’s career and reveals the inner thoughts and daily life of a transformative genius

From their early days as tutor and scholar discussing philosophy over Spartan dinners to their work together to publish Einstein’s books in Europe, in Maurice Solovine, Albert Einstein found both an engaged mind and a loyal friend. While Einstein frequently shared his observations on science, politics, philosophy, and religion in his correspondence with Solovine, he was just as likely to express his feelings about everyday life—his health and the effects of aging and his experiences in the various places where he settled and visited in his long career. The letters are both funny and frank, and taken together, reflect the changes—large and small—that took place over a half century and in the remarkable life of the world’s foremost scientist. Published in English alongside the German text and accompanied by facsimile copies of the original letters, the collected Letters to Solovine offers scholar and interested reader alike unprecedented access to the personal life of Albert Einstein. This authorized book features a new introduction by Neil Berger, PhD, and an illustrated biography of Albert Einstein, which includes rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the Albert Einstein Archives at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Review

“Men are even more susceptible to suggestion than horses, and each period is dominated by a mood, with the result that most men fail to see the tyrant who rules over them.” —Albert Einstein, Princeton, April 10, 1938

About the Author

Albert Einstein (1879–1955) was born in Germany and became an American citizen in 1934. A world-famous theoretical physicist, he was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics and is renowned for his Theory of Relativity. In addition to his scientific work, Einstein was an influential humanist who spoke widely about politics, ethics, and social causes. After leaving Europe, Einstein taught at Princeton University. His theories were instrumental in shaping the atomic age. Neil Berger, an associate professor emeritus of mathematics, taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science department from 1968 until his retirement in 2001. He was the recipient of the first Monroe H. Martin Prize (1975), which is now awarded by the University of Maryland every five years for a singly authored outstanding applied mathematics research paper. He has published numerous papers and reviews in his fields of expertise, which include elasticity, tensor analysis, scattering theory, and fluid mechanics.

Insights into Einstein's heart and soul By Cynthia Sue Larson Maurice Solovine explains in his introduction to this book how he came to meet Albert Einstein in Berne, when he was teaching physics for three francs an hour. At their first meeting, Solovine explained that he was "studying philosophy, but wanted to delve into physics so as to acquire a thorough understanding of nature". On the third day of their meetings, Einstein told Solovine, "As a matter of fact, you don't have to be tutored in physics; our discussion of problems that stem from it is much more interesting. Just come to see me and I will be glad to talk with you." Thus began the long friendship of Maurice Solovine and Albert Einstein -- and this book is a compilation of many letters from Einstein to Solovine, with photocopies of the German originals and translations to English following. While physicists may be somewhat disappointed to find that these letters to Solovine contain very little discussion of physics, most fans of Einstein will be enchanted to see him express his feelings about his family, his work, his peers, and politics.

We find he was concerned about finances and worried about money. He was very interested in being credited with his discoveries and had family problems. Overall, for those with an interest in Mr. Einstein, it's certainly worth reading to help in trying tounderstand him.Mr. Einstein is generally credited with the definition of insanity being "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result". The basis of this attribution is Letters to Slovine. There is nothing in this book to authenticate that statement and the quote belongs to Ms. Rita Mae Brown who probably paraphrased a section from a early !980s Narcotic Anonymous pamphlet.

"[...]which is still called Badon by the Welsh. After that victory, history has little to say about Arthur. The stories tell that he was killed in a great battle in the west; but, nowadays, the wisest historians think it more probable that he met his death in a conflict near the River Forth. And so, in history, Arthur, the hero of such a mass of romantic story, is little more than a name, and it is hardly possible to explain how he attained to such renown as the hero of marvellous and, sometimes, magical feats, unless on the supposition that he became confused with some legendary hero, half god, half man, whose fame he added to his own. Perhaps not the least marvel about him is that he who was the hero of the Britons,[...]".

Fantastic King Arthur Stories By Amazon Customer I'm only a casual King Arthur fan, but this book may well have been the best one I've read about him. It had most of the tales I know, plus plenty I didn't (casual fan, devotees probably know them). The language was old-fashioned, but only to the point of interest and entertainment, not to the point of incomprehensibility. There...it...I don't even know what to tell you, aside from babbling on about how great this book was. There was no active table of contents, and there was only one scanning error I noticed, which was near the end, and honestly slightly hilarious.

The symbol of bank security has been the safe. Today it should be the "unsafe" because, as this book reveals, your bank deposits are now in danger in at least 20 major ways from cybercriminals, money-hungry politicians, Too-Big-To-Fail bankers, and those now stealing your dollars value including the dollars you thought were secure inside bank vaults. Your bank account is systematically being robbed, and is at serious risk of being seized and looted. How much interest is your bank paying you for putting your money at such risk? Less Than Zero Percent! Monetary expert Craig R. Smith and futurist Lowell Ponte show why it has become illogical, and hazardous to your wealth, to trust your money to today's increasingly vulnerable and unsafe banks. Banks (as we know them) and the U.S. Dollar are dying as we are pulled into the rising "cashless society" where everything, from your digital "money" to your household appliances, will be Internet-controllable and hackable, as well as trackable and taxable by bloated governments desperate for ever-more revenue. Smith and Ponte propose a surprising alternative future you can bank on, based in part on what a Harvard economics professor did with his own near-million-dollar bank account. This book shows ways to save your savings.

Hollar I've known the Progressive Movement in this country was destructive, but, had no idea just how bad it really is. This was a real eye opener for me. I highly recommend this to anyone who is just not sure what is really wrong with America. People need to educate themselves so they can make informed choices at the ballot box. I think after you read this book you will fully understand just how crucial it is for Progressives to be utterly and completely defeated so we can take our country back.

That if you have an online bank account, there are people who will do what they can to hack into it. Then for about half of the book, Craig explains about fractional reserve banking, that some of the money in your bank has been lent. And how this is another reason your money is not entirely safe. Most importantly, Craig explains that if your government is badly in debt, it can affect you. First of all, if they can't pay for things and cannot borrow, what's to stop them printing an endless amount of money. At the same time, when Argentina was in trouble, the government took out people's retirement savings and traded it dollar for dollar (or whatever currency they used), for Argentine treasury bonds which paid hardly any interest. And in Cyprus when they were in trouble, they got bailed out with a condition, that they would take out of people's savings. If you think this won't happen to you, their are other things to consider.Europe's constitution gives rights to people, but then at the very end of those statements says provided the government can do so, or something similiar. And in America banks have been strong armed to giving mortgages to low income earners by the government, that's why banks had problems in 2008. And their are other things in place, which could affect you, even if you are away from Europe/USA. Here in my part of the world which isn't Europe or America, we have 'overnight bank resolution' which says if the bank doesn't keep enough reserves on hand, they can claim depositors savings. And what Craig has said about the 'guaranteed retirement accounts' is partly happening here as well. Finally Craig, sums up the 20 reasons as to how your bank is not entirely safe. Their are however a few places Craig could have done better. For instance what he is talking about with the IMF happened in 1969, not 1979. He didn't explain withholding tax well, nor did he give a very broad picture in regards to greenbacks in the civil war. But these are only a few paragraphs or pages. It would be unjust to give him only a four, so I'll give him a 5.
