By avid reader U.S. I am a fan of Mary Johnston and the first book I read of hers was an excerpt of "To Have and To Hold" in a high school English class. I never forgot the story and years later, I was able to purchase and read the entire book. This book 'Prisoners of Hope' was at first a hard start for me to be interested in the politics of years ago, but as I began to read I wanted to find out what happened to the characters. Ms Johnston has a beautiful way with words and sentences and does a wonderful job of describing nature, etc. Parts of her book remind me of "Follow the River" by Thom.
