About the Author About the Author Ken Shotwell, listed in Who's Who in American Art, brings uniquely specialized experience to his books, a result of dual careers spanning fine art and engineering. Following graduation from the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering, a part-time faculty position at the Rhode Island School of Design brought what would be welcomed background in subsequent positions with Hamilton Standard Life Support Systems Division, United Technologies Corporation Research Laboratories, and Combustion Engineering Corporation, among other positions typically involving energy innovations, defense weaponry, aerospace design, advanced research components and industrial and architectural design. On-site sub-contracted design locations included the Los Alamos Research Laboratories in New Mexico, the Princeton University Fusion Reactor Facilities in New Jersey, and the McDonnald-Douglas Aerospace Corporation site in California. Shotwell holds several U.S. Patents, and has written and illustrated hundreds of patents for individual and corporate clients. He is an internationally recognized fine artist, has traveled extensively in Japan, and assisted in team-designing of key components for land-based nuclear reactors, the Apollo Lunar Mission astronaut backpacks, the Skylab space station, and numerous other components and systems, many of which were, and remain, classified. Oh yes, and he is a writer. His first book MindScapes won the Bronze Medal from the Asian Print Awards Association in Shanghai.
