Plus Other Scientific Topics Explained in a Way Everyone Can Understand By James N Simpson Dr Karl writes books about science in a way that the everyday person can understand. My dad enjoys reading his books, and he doesn't really read books. He tackles misconceptions often believed to be fact, and busts a lot of myths and as well teaches you stuff you didn't know before. Dr Karl Kruszelnicki's latest book Short Back and Science is one of the better of the recently released books. Dr Karl has quite a number of these myth busting or explaining the science and history behind everyday thing books that he's been releasing since the 80's. As you'd imagine most of the best topics were covered in earlier books, but there's still some interesting topics inside this one.How long do you think it would take if you could somehow dig a hole from one city in the earth, straight down and come out the other side in a different country? Is it even possible to dig one. If it is, would someone jumping into one survive. Would they come out the other side or be stuck in the middle?The most fascinating topic I found in this book revolved around how cow's milk (and human milk) tastes different with what the cow/mother consumes. The question is asked if you fed a cow just strawberries, would it produce strawberry milk? Also how a mother eating a variety of things will give a child a more adventurous palate so it will try new things when older.Bananas, are their skins really slippery like in cartoons? Coconut water, are retailers lying to you with the claims they are telling you this wonder product does? A large percentage of people wear deodorant who don't need to. Is cotton or polyester better to have as a shirt that doesn't smell like body odour? Do animals enjoy running on those wheels in captivity, would animals in the wild run on these things just for fun? Does corn really pass through you undigested? Why some people saw a blue dress as white in that photo that went viral? Does wine glass shape affect flavour? Are coral reefs in trouble? There's also a heap of other topics.
