Inspirational Introduction to the Curious Soul Considering a Living Providing Food to Hungry Folks Where They Are By Bill Anderson Length: 34 pages.As would be expected from a 34-page, 99-cent publication, this is heavy on inspiration, low on specificity. What it does well is to address that curious itch I have as regards making a living with a food truck.Only wish the writer had inserted ranges of numbers in terms of startup costs and some general idea on operating expenses vs sales revenue. Such information is of vital importance for any prospective entrepreneur.Yet, as I stated at the start, what the author does well is to nurture that thirst for knowledge. His writing is incredibly fast-paced and easy to read. It took me only a half hour to read through this booklet.I don't see that he has a follow-on book, but, if he doesn't, he certainly should.

I loved to observe insects By Roxy Every since I was a little child, I loved to observe insects, and now, when I am older I spend my spare time reading books about them. I feel like I never know enough. I find this book to be particularly interesting. The author introduces the readers into the ants world, he explains about their appearance and and evolution and about their way of organising. It was a really interesting reading experience.The book is well written and easy to read, making it accessible to all types of readers. Give it a try.

I especially enjoyed the descriptions of hunting through the jungle from the back of an elephant. It felt as if I were riding alongside the author. Great record of a time that is lost forever.

He was a British officer stationed in India in 1909. This is his story of that time. Tiger, panther and elephant hunts, life in the hill station chasing bandits, heat and rain and cold. A very interesting look at a time gone by. I enjoyed it very much as I did his other books.

I was so attached to this book that when I went to college, I took it along. When my roommate discovered I had this book, she carried it off and ignored everything else (including homework!) for several days. My copy traveled four floors of my dorm, and while returning it, I met girls who had read it and loved it, but never could find a copy to buy; girls who had never known that a sequel to the Peppers existed, and were delighted to read it for the first time; and girls who read it because they were curious as to what dozens of their doormmates were getting so excited about. When I left my dorm, I donated the book to our dorm library so every succeeding generation can discover this wonderful book.It is truly one of the best children's books out there. The character's are the same loveable but delightfully human ones we met in "The Five Little Peppers." The boys are off at a bording school, and the fights, challenges and school comraderies are as diverting as they must have been to readers of the time. Polly is at an exclusive girl's school as a day pupil, and her experiences are what all my doormates were fascinated by. The way these girls reacted with each other, the degrees of friendship between girls, and especially the interaction of these teenage girls with the young men in their lives are intriguing to read about. The book has a gently moralistic tone, as did the first, that should not put off readers. It offers a unique glimpse of what people can be: charitable, family-oriented, intelligent, loyal, and especially resourceful. In an age where we are bombarded with sex, violence, and never-ending confessionals, this book is a breath of fresh air. Take it off the shelf and enjoy it.Incidentally, the Pepper series does not stop here. I was told by my dorm librarian that there is even a book about Phronsie's teenage years that was her favourite, but has since gone of out print. Maybe Amazon will find this one for us too.

22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. I love this book. By Michael I am 10 and I love "The Adventures of Joel Pepper"! It is one of 12 "Pepper" books and it is one of my favorites. It centers around Joel, the middle Pepper child. The Pepper children are: Ebenezer (Ben), Mary (Polly), Joel, David, and Saphronia (Phronsie). They live in 19th centry New England in their little brown house with their "Mamsie". Their dad died when Phronsie was a baby. This book has everything from fires to circuses and a bull to a snake. The Peppers are very, very poor but they always seem to have good times in spite of it. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did and if you like this book don't fail to read the other 11, if you havent already. Michael

I found Polly a wonderful role model and she helped me feel like I wasn't so alone in my troubles. I read it over and over. I tried to follow her example as the oldest child in how I helped my brother and sister. It also helped me realize that money is helpful but there are more important things. Even though it is set in a bygone era, the essence of the book is timeless and classic.When I was young and poor, it was one of the few books I was allowed and I treasured it. And, even though I'm a bookworm and have read many other books, it will always be my favorite.

The book does contain some good information and certainly some helpful tips for building a positive, customer focused business. I also like that it's not too long so you can easily read it in an afternoon. Some of the things he says seem stupid obvious until you consider your day to day experiences and realize they are lost on a lot of people. (For example, 10 minutes late is late.)Having said those things I also have a few criticisms:The author is clearly an extrovert so some of the personality traits he talks about or things he sort of assumes you are already doing are only valid if you are also extroverted like him. For those of us who are introverts, you are going to realize that there are extra steps involved to reach some of his suggested goals/mindsets (or whatever you might call them).This book is much more valuable if you are a business-owner or manager etc., particularly if you are in sales. Again I'm not disagreeing with his philosophies, but if you are not a manager and don't have a lot of direct customer contact then much of what he talks about will apply to you, it will just apply a lot less often. There could be some good life lessons buried in there though.Lastly, the one thing the author doesn't do is address when to pull the plug. He emphasizes superior customer service and the customer is always right but, let's be honest, there are some customers whose expectations can never be met and who are just plain wrong. He spends so much time talking about being nice and being positive that he forgets to mention sometimes you have end a toxic relationship. (He does discuss learning to say 'No' but not in this context.) Only with one line in the last chapter does he touch on this when he says "Not every customer is a good customer for you." I wish he would have spent some time discussing that you can cut somebody off and still be nice. I think a lot of people struggle with this concept.Overall it's an easy read and certainly applicable if you deal directly with customers a lot. Otherwise it contains a few basic life lessons but probably not a lot of insightful material.

Great business advice that you can really follow. This is not rocket science, it's just great, down to earth advice that can help any business grow. Big and small business' have lost site of how important it is to create a connection with your customers, and how a great experience can make someone a customer for life, and Doug Sandler offers up some very original, imaginative ways to do that. There are a lot of great business advice books out there, but this one could become the next classic.

Nice Guys Finish First, demonstrates unequivocally that by investing time, effort and energy in doing the right thing and adopting a consultative-based approach of inspiring prospects and customers to take optimal actions you will be both successful and happy. There are lots of lessons for large businesses on how to stop hiding behind technology and to start putting the "human" back into client relationships; after-all isn't a win/win about leaving others feeling good about themselves and thereby wanting a deeper more engaging relationship with you? As the author of "The Ultimate Guide to Consulting in the Networked Age" I fully concur with Doug on the need for systems, and trust-building consistency that facilitate exceptional client service that is delivered in a consultative (i.e. not "selling") approach of advising and educating clients to make good decisions and to execute properly. A must read that reveals the secret of the happiness factor that comes from going the extra mile where the reader will find that it is less crowded out there with Doug. I have no doubt that the happiness and success system revealed by Doug will change many lives for the better; this book will be BIG!!

About the Author

Christian De Perthuis is a professor of economics at University Paris-Dauphine and head of the climate economics department. He is the author of several books, including Economic Choices in a Warming World. As chairman of the Green Tax Committee, he designed the carbon tax that was introduced by the French government in January 2014.

Pierre-André Jouvet is a professor of economics at the University of Paris-Ouest-Nanterre-la Défense and is the scientific director of the climate economics department. His recent book is Global Environmental Commons: Analytical and Political Challenges in Building Governance Mechanisms.

Green capital By Clare O'Beara More than one book I've read recently has carried this theme of nature providing services which should be factored into the cost of goods or energy, but is discounted or thought of as free. Bees pollinating flowers to produce crops is the obvious one; clean water for irrigation, grazing and manufacturing is another.The authors examine the topic thoroughly and from economic points of view. I do admire their research while it's good to see this work from a European writing team. One reason I am not giving top marks is that I don't really need to be provided with all the differing philosophical and economic systems ever in circulation. Maybe someone studying the history and philosophy of economics would be delighted to get all their references in one handy book. For an ecologist it's over the top and feels like padding. Natural systems are well addressed in 'What Has Nature Ever Done For Us?' by Tony Juniper.I like the present and future being addressed in such ways as to point out that the developed northern hemisphere is largely planting trees and preserving biodiversity while the less developed lands and southern hemisphere are doing the opposite. But the developed lands are dependent on foods, supply chains and manufacturing in the developing countries. So a full air mile, carbon use and pollution cost should be provided on clear labelling. This would reveal the natural capital used. Degrowth is a concept based on the fact that as cities enlarge, people consume more resources travelling further to work. Quite where to put all the people who might leave cities, given an enlarging population needs farmland, is not really addressed. This could be combined with reading 'Walkable City' by Jeff Speck.The authors stress that we are currently consuming natural resources at a far faster rate than the planet can replenish them, arguing that a resource owned by nobody will be over exploited, like the ocean being overfished, and fishing rights should be apportioned. This reminded me of the Enclosures Act in Britain which stopped general overgrazing of common ground. So I can see that there is a point in looking to what worked in the past. The authors remind us that conditions everywhere are generally improving, but oddly omit to say that Europe's shores are overrun with millions of economic migrants as well as conflict refugees.Those quoted include major bodies like WWF, the UNHDP, World Bank, various commentators from journalism and Nobel Prize winners, as well as economic theorists and scientists. I would definitely have liked to see charts, graphs, photos to help us get a view of the planet-sized facts and figures. Students of the subjects mentioned as well as commentators, journalists, mediators, investors and those working in administration will find the book helpful and informative.I read an ARC from Net Galley in return for an unbiased review.

Enjoyable By Autamme_dot_com Many people criticise so-called green initiatives that are built around ecological preservation for stifling long-term economic growth, giving at most a blip in certain sectors whilst incurring costs elsewhere. On many occasions they are the “devil incarnate” and just get in the way of business. Oh, what should one believe?This is an interesting, relatively specialist book, that looks at the economic picture and costs of so-called green capital, examining the gamut of costs related to the deterioration of the “great natural regulatory functions”, such as the climate system, the water cycle and biodiversity, as if we mess them up as a society we really could be facing a “game over” situation. It sounds alarmist and many will rationalise it as being something mankind finds a way around; yet even if it does, or it can mitigate the problem with a bit of luck and good fortune, why play Russian Roulette?There is a precedent for this. The authors note: “Four thousand years ago, the fate of the Sumerians revealed that when growth is driven by capital accumulation that preys on the environment, it will eventually self-destruct. Thanks to their control of irrigation, the inhabitants of Sumer developed agriculture, writing, law and the city; but because they were unable to master drainage, the indispensable complement to irrigation in arid areas, their civilization vanished as a result of the sterilization of the soil by salt.” Is that enough? How about this: “The inhabitants of Easter Island, who had also developed one of the first writing systems, experienced a similar fate. After felling the last tree, they abandoned their island with its huge granite statues and it is now lunar landscape.”These were more innocent, less-developed times too. Look at this through a 2015 lens; we have machines that can process tonnes of rocks within the blink of an eye, explosives to destroy the world many times over and the ability, capability and desire to consume more than we should… What good luck which could have saved the planet in the past may not exist today.For the generalist this book has a lot of thought-provoking, incisive comment. The specialist can also draw upon a range of possible workable solutions and enjoy an examination of various valuation schemes and their contribution to the goals of green capitalism which, if implemented, could hopefully benefit both business and the wider environment.Analysing the validity of the models offered up by the authors is far beyond the “pay grade” of this reviewer, even though they do not appear far-fetched, are sympathetic and seem to understand the diverging needs of both sides. It is unfortunate that more general readers won’t see this book due, in part to its price, but also its appearance of being a more esoteric, specialist work. It could serve both reader groups, even if the amateur had to skip around a bit, as the authors manage to put a lot of points into context, adding colour and consideration rather than just waving a “hectoring finger” as sadly many environmentally focussed books tend to do.Certainly, to conclude, one can fairly say that this book deserves closer scrutiny; even if you are not even close to any “decision-making” processes, it does not hurt to get even a greater understanding about a problem that can and will affect us all.

Prioritizing,The vicious circle of Procrastination- Procrastinators tends to find their area of comfort and try to stay zoned in it.Setting goals and making the workplace comfortable are all part of improving performance.If you as a procrastinator, can look at the work as a challenge, rather than a chore, as a game rather than a task, as a pleasure rather than an obligation then you will be able to manage your time more efficiently and hit those deadlines. By C M I personally have always struggled with time management and procrastination which would leave me with so much work to do and so little time.I decided to read this book as I am tired of being stressed and unable to break my habits. The information the author provides has been very helpful for me as it provides many great tips on how to be less distracted and more productive. It also has given me some effective methods to try such as prioritising my workload and being more organised.Overall, a very helpful and well written book that I would recommend.

I find myself continually time poor always trying to fit more into my day while still trying to get a work life balance. I have read over time many time management books, however this one by Sebastian Torres is one of the better ones as it is simple to follow and has some very useful tips on how to manage your time more effectively, such as breaking down large jobs into more manageable chunks, prioritizing and also mixing with people of like mindset.
